Crypto detective ZachXBT stated that according to the asset confiscation lawsuit filed by US law enforcement yesterday, Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen was hacked in January 2024 worth approximately $150 million (283M XRP) because his private keys were stored in LastPass, a password manager that was hacked in 2022.
Previously, Larsen did not disclose the specific reason for the wallet theft. Law enforcement investigations have found that the data breach that occurred at LastPass in 2022 resulted in attackers stealing encrypted private keys, subsequently illegally accessing victims' electronic accounts and stealing assets.
