According to Golden Finance, the International Monetary Fund believes that Namibia has no convincing reason to issue a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC). On the contrary, the focus should be on strengthening Instant Payment Solutions (IPS) to address affordability and interoperability issues.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) emphasizes that Namibia's major financial institutions are already committed to Instant Payment Solutions (IPS), leaving little room for retail CBDCs. In addition, the advantages of CBDC, such as offline functionality, depend on technologies that are not yet ready for large-scale adoption. To truly eliminate the financial exclusion gap, Namibia must first address the fundamental reasons for inadequate infrastructure and low financial literacy.
