According to Reuters, two industry executives revealed that US authorities have started releasing previously seized Chinese made cryptocurrency mining equipment in recent weeks. Taras Kulyk, CEO and co-founder of Synteq Digital, a cryptocurrency mining equipment broker, said, "Thousands of devices have been released, with up to 10000 devices previously stranded at various ports of entry. Obviously, some people in customs and border protection really don't like Bitcoin mining, so they want to create trouble for the entire industry." Ethan Vera, COO of Luxor Technology, said, "Some detained goods are being released, but currently they are only a few." Vera and Kulyk both expressed concerns about the radio frequency radiation generated by the devices, but they believe these concerns are unfounded.
According to Blockspace's report in November last year, the US Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Communications Commission have been confiscating certain Bitcoin mining equipment since the end of last year. The media reported that at least some of the devices may have been detained because they used chips from Sophgo, a Chinese chip company that is subject to trade restrictions.
