Odaily Planet Daily News: US President Trump has nominated former cryptocurrency company executive Jonathan Gould as the head of the Office of the Superintendent of Currency (OCC), the country's banking regulatory agency. The White House submitted Gould's nomination to the Senate on February 11th. If confirmed, he will serve as the Director of the Currency Supervision Bureau for a term of five years. Gould was formerly the Chief Legal Officer of Bitfury, a blockchain infrastructure company, and is currently a partner at Jones Day, a law firm. He served as the Senior Deputy Supervisor and Chief Legal Counsel of OCC from late 2018 to mid-2021 during the first Trump administration, and prior to that, he served as a director of BlackRock from 2014 to 2018. The OCC regulates and supervises all major banks belonging to the Federal Reserve system, such as JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, with the aim of ensuring the security of the US banking system.
