Ukraine plans to officially legalize cryptocurrency by the summer of 2025

According to Mezha According to media reports, Ukraine plans to officially legalize cryptocurrency before the summer of 2025. Danilo Gaitmantsev, Chairman of the Ukrainian Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy Committee, stated that the main content of the relevant bill has been completed and discussions are currently underway on transaction monitoring and tax policies. The government has explicitly stated that cryptocurrencies will not enjoy tax benefits and will be taxed as investment assets. In addition, for holders who cannot prove the source of their purchase funds, the bill may require them to pay taxes based on the holding amount rather than profits after it comes into effect. In terms of regulation, Gaitmantsev stated that the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) may become an initial regulatory agency, as the National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC) of Ukraine currently lacks regulatory capacity. The bill is expected to undergo preliminary review in the first quarter of 2025, with the goal of being passed by the summer of 2025 at the latest.
