Arbitrarum charges a 10% handling fee to its own L3, while as L2, it only gives Ethereum 2%. Prior to this, I also thought that these L2s were too stingy and gave Ethereum too little protection fee. I even called on Ethereum to forcefully charge these L2s more protection fees, but now I am gradually realizing that I cannot do it.
Previously, some great scholars on Twitter said that the metaphor of nationalizing Ethereum was lazy and unreasonable. However, the truth is that everything in the world is like this, and you have to ask "why" for all the interests involved. The amount you give me and the amount I repay you are always equal.
So let's break down what you might gain from Ethereum by issuing an L2
1. Developer ecosystem? You don't need to send L2 to obtain it, you just need EVM compatibility, which is not exclusive to Ethereum.
2. Brand endorsement? I believe no one would think that Ethereum has the ability to endorse the L2 brand now. If before this, brands like Taiko, Scroll, MegaETH, which relied on "licking" (sorry to put it too harshly) Vitalik and the Ethereum Foundation gained legitimacy with brand endorsement, but now everyone no longer recognizes it.
3. Resource traffic? The concept of Ethereum's walled garden and the doctrine of the mean prevent you from thinking about getting resources from top to bottom. When Ethereum rose from 400 to 4000 in the last cycle, you could obtain traffic through L2, but now
4. Safety. Well, this is a tangible benefit that can be obtained, after all, you don't need to worry too much about Ethereum mainnet downtime. There are still risks in doing L2 on other chains.
What other benefits are there? Welcome to add, that's all I can think of.
So the question arises, if Ethereum can only provide security benefits to L2 users, how much share should L2 users give Ethereum?
Do you choose to send an L1 using Cosmos or an L2 using Ethereum?
Has Cosmos been successful? I think it's very successful. There are countless star public chains in the ecosystem, but the price of Atom coin is hard to describe. Does Cosmos not want his descendants to pay for the benefits? If one day Cosmos says that you all have to use my atom as the gas fee and pay me a 10% handling fee, then it will definitely be scattered because Cosmos itself does not give everyone a premium other than technical support.
Some people say that Jason may have been blacklisted after your Ethereum was liquidated. I am not a fan of Ethereum, nor am I advocating Cosmos. They are all very good and have made valuable public goods for this industry. This is also the reason why many Ethereum believers (I used to be one of them) continue to persist. But business is business. I cannot give you an extra two months of year-end bonus just because you are a good person. You have to show me the benefits you bring, and then I am willing to take out my pocket.
