The rules for investing in cryptocurrencies through U.S. 401(k) plans enter the final review at the White House.

A retirement plan investment rule developed by the U.S. Department of Labor has been submitted for White House review on November 5. If enacted, it will mean that 401(k) retirement plans will find it easier to add Bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies, as well as alternative asset-related products like private equity and real estate to their investment options.

The 401(k) is a common employer-sponsored retirement savings plan in the U.S., similar to China's pension system. The Department of Labor proposed a draft in March this year hoping to streamline the review process for investing in cryptocurrencies within 401(k) plans. If this is established, it could mean that a substantial amount of funds could flow into mainstream cryptocurrency sectors such as Bitcoin:native (compliant ETFs).

As of the currently published data, the asset size of 401(k) plans is approximately 10.8 trillion dollars. Even if only 1% of the assets can enter the cryptocurrency domain, that would be 108 billion dollars. This would greatly alleviate the liquidity issue of Bitcoin.

Of course, I personally feel that the chances of passage are good, but the allocation after passage may still take some time to sort out. If there really can be more than 1% allocation, then the bull market for BTC should start another wave. After all, BTC's total market capitalization is only 1.52 trillion, and 108 billion is equivalent to 7% of the market cap.
