Will the Democratic Party suppress cryptocurrencies if they take both houses?
In recent days, many friends are worried that after the Democratic Party controls Congress, they will restrict the development of cryptocurrencies. There are indeed some members within the Democratic Party who do not support cryptocurrencies (just as there are some within the Democratic Party who do not support AI), but there are also many who support the development of the crypto industry, as evidenced by previous congressional votes.
In July 2025, the House of Representatives passed the cryptocurrency market structure bill, the "CLARITY Act," with 294 votes in favor and 134 votes against. Among them, 78 Democratic members voted in favor. In June of the same year, the stablecoin bill, the "GENIUS Act," was passed in the Senate with 68 votes in favor and 30 votes against, with 18 Democratic senators voting in favor.
In this midterm election, statistics from the cryptocurrency advocacy organization Stand With Crypto indicate that 245 candidates who were rated as supportive of cryptocurrencies have been elected, including 226 in the House of Representatives and 19 in the Senate, from both the Democratic and Republican parties.
Of course, there are also members within the Democratic Party, such as Warren and Waters, who advocate for stronger regulation. However, the opposition from these members is more about the privileges that Trump exercised as president in the field of cryptocurrencies, rather than a 100% opposition to cryptocurrencies.
Overall, both supporters of the development of the cryptocurrency industry and those calling for increased regulation exist; this is not necessarily a bad thing. Better regulation can make the entire environment safer, and the actions of individuals like Trump, who treat cryptocurrencies as private or even family ATMs, indeed need to be regulated.
