SEC new regulations enter White House review, brokerage cryptocurrency business rules may be adjusted
On November 3, the U.S. SEC submitted a rule document involving cryptocurrency asset brokers for White House review, which is still under review.
According to the SEC's previous regulatory agenda, this rule mainly pertains to brokers' net capital, customer asset protection, as well as business record and retention requirements. For instance, how much capital brokers need to maintain when conducting cryptocurrency asset business, how to protect customer assets, and how to retain relevant records may all be influenced.
Currently, there are brokerages that meet existing requirements conducting cryptocurrency asset custody and other businesses. What the SEC is considering adjusting this time is how existing broker rules apply to cryptocurrency assets. If the new rules can clarify requirements and reduce compliance costs, traditional brokers may find it easier to engage in related businesses.
