Interview: Tong, PANews
Editor: Zen, PANews
During TOKEN2049 in 2026, PANews engaged in a dialogue with Xie Jiayin, the head of Bitget Greater China.
This year marks both the eighth anniversary of Bitget and Xie Jiayin's eighth year in the cryptocurrency industry. From being a newcomer in the industry to now being an executive at an exchange, he has experienced several rounds of change in the crypto market and witnessed Bitget's evolution from a budding exchange to where it is today.
Not long before the interview, Bitget encountered its only security incident in eight years at the end of September. The handling of this incident, along with accountability and responsibility, became the first topic discussed in this dialogue.
In addition, regarding Bitget's ongoing panoramic exchange (UEX) strategy, Xie Jiayin shared updates on trading traditional financial assets such as US stocks, gold, and foreign exchange, as well as changes in user demographics brought about by new products.
From career growth and user service to product innovation and future planning, here are the main points from this interview:
Response to Security Incident: Trust Needs to Be Earned Through Action
PANews: You and your team must have been very busy in the past two weeks. At the end of September, Bitget experienced a security incident for the first time in its eight-year history. Now that everything has settled down, what was the outcome of the incident's handling? Did it have any impact on Bitget?
Xie Jiayin: Frankly, this is our only security incident in eight years. I think the entire handling plan was fairly timely.
First of all, I mentioned at that time that Bitget is a platform with accountability, and there’s no need for everyone to worry. For user assets, Bitget allowed withdrawals. Only on the first day did users withdraw coins, and by the second day, many assets were already coming back.
Trust is never taken for granted; it needs to be earned repeatedly through actions. Since users choose to trust Bitget, you have to find ways to uphold that trust.
Therefore, this crisis may not necessarily be a bad thing for us. I have always believed that a crisis cannot end a platform; accountability can actually redefine a platform.
Just like a ship navigating through the sea, it can only prove its strength after braving storms and waves.
In fact, I have always been telling my friends that I have ambitions, and Bitget has ambitions too. This year marks my eighth year in the industry and Bitget's eighth anniversary.
Eight Years of Career Growth: From Executor to Manager, Transmitting the Platform's Trust to Users
PANews: Both you and Bitget have been in the crypto industry for eight years. Reflecting on your growth along the way, what changes do you feel in your mindset, and what have you gained?
Xie Jiayin: I think a significant change is from being an executor to now being a manager. Eight years ago when I first joined the industry, I was still a "newbie" in the workplace. But through eight years of honing, I have forged myself into a "tough individual," able to withstand pressure and lead my team forward.
Whether it is me or Bitget, we have shifted from proving ourselves to expressing ourselves. I think this is a good transformation, indicating that the brand is becoming stronger and has gained more user recognition.
PANews: I think Jiayin has now become a business card for Bitget.
Xie Jiayin: This is mutually reinforcing; the platform has made me who I am today. Frankly speaking, without Bitget, there would be no present me.
We should not mistakenly attribute the platform's success to our own abilities. I can only say that I represent more than 2,100 employees of Bitget and am one person pushed to the forefront. It's not that I am so great, but rather that the platform is strong enough that others think Xie Jiayin is great.
Bitget has provided me with a great stage and a very solid backing.
PANews: Many friends should know your previous story. You have shared on social media how you have come from an ordinary family in a rural area to where you are today. Do these experiences and the process of striving in your career make it easier for you to understand users when serving them and to develop empathy?
Xie Jiayin: Of course. I always say that I come from the masses, and now I return to the masses.
Although I am now an executive at Bitget, I still wish to extend services to the masses and convey them to everyone.
Therefore, I will require the team to serve all customers, whether they are VIP customers, ordinary customers, or channels and other partners; we need to respond quickly and solve problems rapidly.
Users' trust in you is built up gradually, little by little. It’s not that sending a gift box to them one day makes them like you; it’s whether you can truly help users solve their problems.
Because I come from a very ordinary family, I understand how hard it is for ordinary people to achieve some dreams or solve some problems since I have gone through those processes.
So, having been through the rain myself, I want to hold an umbrella for others.
PANews: I remember one case where a user possibly deposited the wrong coin; even though the amount might not have been large, you still used many resources to help them solve the problem. There must be quite a number of such cases, right?
Xie Jiayin: Very many. Over these eight years, we have helped users recover assets without ever charging a fee.
Just yesterday, there was a customer who deposited gold assets worth about $160,000 onto another chain, and we happened to not have that chain enabled.
In the end, we set up a group and organized a collaborative team of eight people, and in about 30 minutes, we helped him solve the problem.
Similar situations occur frequently, so I always remind everyone to pay attention when depositing and to select the right network.
UEX Panoramic Exchange: From Crypto to US Stocks, Gold, and Foreign Exchange
PANews: Bitget is a fast-paced team, and the cryptocurrency industry itself is also rapidly changing. Policy regulations, market conditions, and user demands change almost daily. This poses great challenges for your work; do you feel anxious? How do you cope with this anxiety?
Xie Jiayin: I think anxiety is a phase.
Frankly speaking, sometimes when I see others launching some features or products, we also feel anxious. But we have also made others anxious in the past.
When we launched UEX last September, I could clearly sense that competitors were starting to feel anxious too.
Therefore, feeling anxious is inevitable; we need to constantly refine our products and innovate. The times and users have changed, and if you don't adapt, you can only fall behind.
We have been overturning some of our past strategies. Some mature strategies or successful experiences from the past may no longer be applicable now or in the future.
PANews: Just now you mentioned UEX; I think this is also a foresighted judgment from your team. Why did you choose to make these changes a year in advance? What impact has this strategy brought to Bitget's users and market operations?
Xie Jiayin: This is a very interesting matter.
When we announced that we would create the UEX panoramic exchange last September, many people thought it was something that seemed impossible to achieve or too complex and distant.
Some felt that as an exchange, we should just stick to doing Crypto and not get into US stocks, gold, foreign exchange, silver, and so on.
However, I believe our strategy must always lead the market competitors by more than half a year. As an exchange, we need to continuously provide trading opportunities for our users.
In September last year, Bitget launched its US stock trading services, initially offering related services through Ondo integration. Subsequently, addressing user feedback regarding operational experience, we began developing the tokenized US stock protocol Reality by the end of December that same year. This system directly connects to the liquidity of NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange, improving trading execution efficiency while supporting direct deposit of dividends.
Thanks to this liquidity access mechanism, Bitget's rToken is highly competitive in terms of liquidity. After the new system went live, the daily trading volume of US stocks reached as high as $10 billion. However, trading activity is still affected by market conditions; when the US stock market performs poorly, related trading volume will also decrease accordingly.
On January 5 of this year, we launched gold, foreign exchange, and silver services, integrating with MT5.
Currently, Bitget's gold, foreign exchange, and contract-for-difference (CFD) business has achieved considerable scale, reaching an upper-middle level in the industry even compared to traditional foreign exchange trading platforms.
In terms of US stocks, our US stock derivatives have accounted for 19.5%, making it the second-largest US stock derivatives market in the world, second only to Binance.
PANews: From the user perspective, do you observe that existing Crypto users are starting to shift towards traditional financial assets, or are they drawn to Bitget because you provide trading channels for these traditional assets?
Xie Jiayin: Actually, both.
About two months ago, we conducted a survey and found that among the new users registered this year, one in four is trading US stocks and foreign exchange.
We have indeed attracted a portion of users from the traditional foreign exchange and US stock markets, but it hasn't reached the scale I had imagined, so we need to continue making efforts.
In previous years, Bitget did not have a C2C business, and to expand more markets, we have also launched the C2C function to provide an entry point for users.
From Dark Horse to Leading Exchange: Product Innovation, User Service, and Long-Termism
PANews: This year marks Bitget's eighth anniversary. In the crypto industry, eight years is a challenging journey. From a dark horse exchange to a leading one, what do you think are the main reasons behind its rapid growth and establishment of competitive barriers?
Xie Jiayin: First is the product. We have indeed led the market in terms of products, being the first in the world to launch a copy trading platform.
We can find users' needs and predict what products they may want.
Additionally, I hope that users can see Bitget's presence anywhere, feeling secure. Whenever they want to find someone from Bitget, they can do so easily.
Moreover, there is Bitget's transparency, including asset transparency and proof of asset reserves. We disclose this information publicly every month, with the asset reserve proof at the end of September being 131%.
While operating an exchange, I believe that long-termism is more important.
We need to maintain respect for the product, the market, and the users while continuously refining our own products to remain competitive.
Future Goals: Making Bitget One of the Top Three Choices for Chinese-speaking Users
PANews: Standing at the juncture of Bitget's eighth anniversary, looking to the future, what are Bitget's next goals and vision? What role do you hope to play in this process?
Xie Jiayin: Frankly speaking, my personal goal is to make Bitget one of the top three choices for Chinese-speaking users.
This is my goal, to make users genuinely recognize Bitget.
PANews: So what are your plans for personal development moving forward?
Xie Jiayin: I want to help the team perform better and grow.
I hope that everyone in the team can do better than I do because only by their continuous growth can the platform develop better.
PANews: Finally, one last question. If today I am a newcomer from outside the circle, how would you recommend Bitget to me?
Xie Jiayin: I would tell him that Bitget is a one-stop financial operation platform.
Here, you can trade not only US stocks and Hong Kong stocks, but also gold and Crypto, allowing for global asset allocation. It’s a very good choice.
