6 hours left until the $SOL disinflation vote ends.
67.88% YES. Justtt above the 66.7% it needs to pass. Tight!
Not surprising that staking businesses are mostly voting AGAINST:
- @Figment_io 17M,
- @everstake_pool 8M,
- @P2Pvalidator 4.6M.
High inflation is their core busines.
So faster disinflation = less SOL issued = lower APY = harder to keep stake, and smaller operators go unprofitable sooner.
Solana's DAT 'Solana Company (HSDT)' voted Against, on timing : 'a critical moment for institutional adoption of Solana, and capital markets place heavy emphasis on maintaining consistent rules.'
Interestingly, that's main argument that Ethereans were against reducing inflation: rules have to be stable especially as institutions are entering crypto.
Although weirdly I don't see much debates from Solana DeFi teams on X.
Ethereum's DeFi teams said that lower inflation 'kills DeFi' because staking yield is DeFi's risk-free rate.
LSTs and their looping is HUGE revenue stream for them.
On Solana, Jupiter (the biggest DeFi voter) voted 100% YES.
JupSOL/jtoSOL are my favorite loops on Kamino and Juplend...
So obviously, lower inflation will generate lower APY. I don't like it myself lol
I guess DeFi isn't that important for Solana as for Ethereum: (it's a trading chain and volume > yield)/
or Solana DeFi is more diversified so a staking APY reduction isn't that relevant?
