I must share with you something I experienced last week,

it’s simply too worth mentioning,

I am sharing it because I hope you can gain some energy from it.

Last Friday, I planned to play basketball with friends, and after parking my car at Huazhong University of Science and Technology’s court, not long after, a buddy of mine accidentally hit my friend’s car.

Generally speaking, our normal reaction at this moment would be anger and annoyance, feeling angry at the other party for being so careless and annoyed that they have caused us trouble.

My friend's reaction surprised me!

He seemed very happy, and when the other person came over to apologize and saw that we several big guys were clearly anxious,

my old friend cheerfully approached them, constantly comforting the other party, telling them it was a minor issue, nothing to worry about, just needed to go through the routine of taking photos and dealing with insurance; being hit is essentially unavoidable, everyone has moments of carelessness, and as long as people are okay, that is the greatest blessing.

The guy opposite was probably baffled, having never seen someone so happy and carefree after being hit; he was also affected by my friend's emotions, laughing and chatting as they finished taking photos, resolving everything in three minutes.

I asked my friend, why are you so happy after being hit!

He said he is this happy every time he gets hit; the last time was a year ago on the highway, when a truck suddenly rear-ended him because the truck driver was fatigued.

He explained that the reason for his happiness after being hit is very simple: first, he wasn’t hurt at all, which is equivalent to having dodged a disaster; thus, the disaster departing means a buildup of good fortune.

Secondly, if your car is hit and you are upset, sad, troubled, angry, or frustrated, what good does that do? It does nothing; many people would have been fine originally, but due to a small collision and a quarrel with someone else, they lead to bigger accidents. Therefore, as long as people are fine, insurance can handle it, so why get angry? Just happily celebrate that you avoided another disaster, comfort the person who hit you, and then joyfully go do what you originally planned to do.

After hearing this, I was shocked by his logic; what he did was actually a very high-level thing: taking responsibility for the facts without letting excessive emotions arise from them.

Take photos when necessary, handle insurance when needed, take responsibility when required;

the rest is over. This act is particularly powerful because he was originally the “victim” in this situation, but because his mind was big enough, he ended up being the one who stabilized everyone’s emotions. Wouldn’t you be impressed by his generosity upon meeting such a person?

It was at this moment that I noticed the guy who hit his car came over carrying a large bag of sports drinks, saying to my friend that he must treat us to some water as he had caused us trouble,

Did you think this was the end of the story?

Everyone happily chatted while drinking water and found out that this guy was a surgical professor at Tongji Hospital, and my friend's father happened to be going to Tongji to see a neurosurgeon next week. When this old guy heard this, he insisted on helping to make the arrangements.

Last night, my friend told me that his father quickly got to see the professor after being admitted to the hospital.

This is a true story, also more shocking to me than Bitcoin suddenly rising 30% in recent months; and note that I’m not telling a story about how good people get rewarded,

originally these two people were just two strangers forced to connect because of an accident. According to the most common script, one would be angry and the other would apologize; the best outcome would be taking photos and exchanging phone numbers; never to meet again.

However, because one of them chose not to become angry, but instead chose understanding and kindness, while astonishing us, he evidently also impressed the one who caused the accident. He had never seen such a generous person and character; the respect and extraordinary feelings he experienced are, in my view, quite evident. Thus, he felt he should buy us some water, so they chatted a little longer, learned what each other did for a living, and a connection that would not have been discovered otherwise emerged.

This might be my more concrete understanding of what is called “good fortune.” Good fortune is not necessarily something mystical; many times, it’s just about your repeated choices of kindness, tolerance, and restraint that leave the world with more possibilities for good connections with you.

You don’t know which time it will yield results; in fact, most times it won’t, but where you pass through, you are constantly leaving behind good relationships, positive emotions, and good karma. Over time, your life will naturally be different from that of others.

I think my friend has materialized: being good to others + inner peace!

So you see, a person’s greatest fortune isn’t where they live, who they know, or how much money they have. It might just be their emotions, their capacity for understanding, and how they face the world.

When situations arise, deal with them; as for the parts that cannot be changed, do not resent, do not feel trapped, do not continue punishing yourself, and then happily go play the game you originally intended to play.

Many times in life, it may just be little changes that make a difference.
