FOMO surged to the top five download rankings for financial apps in the Apple Store.
Following it is Kalshi.
In December last year, I created a FOMO WeChat group.
There were several observations at that time, which still hold true in retrospect:
1/ FOMO is not just another copy trading software.
What it does is something different: it allows you to see directly who bought which coin and why they bought it.
Previously, our path to buying coins was:
Search for information on social media → Understand the project → Read others' analysis → Buy on-chain or on exchanges.
Now it has changed to:
Open FOMO → See who holds which coins → Understand their logic.
It brings discovery and decision-making closer, eliminating a lot of search and validation friction.
2/ Users should not perceive the existence of infrastructure.
On FOMO, you don't need to know which chain the tokens are on, nor do you need to cross-chain or prepare transaction fees and capital yourself.
All these underlying operations have been abstracted away.
The better the infrastructure, the less users perceive it. This is how it should be.
We have become accustomed to the internet without knowing TCP/IP, and we use mobile payments without thinking about the settlement network. Blockchain products should also move in this direction.
The great way is formless.
3/ KOL networks are a moat.
Things with network effects have inherently high migration costs.
WeChat is hard to replace because the social relationships are embedded in it. Fiat currency is hard to overthrow because the government forces people to use it for pricing and settlement.
The switching cost between trading tools is very low because tools are just tools. But FOMO is no longer just a tool.
The KOLs you follow and the viewpoints and signals they continuously output are themselves constantly accumulating information assets.
This is difficult to take away.
