1. Project Overview

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ code: AAPL) is one of the highest market capitalization publicly traded companies in the world and is currently one of the most highly tokenized U.S. stocks in the real-world asset (RWA) sector. As of the writing of this report, the price of AAPL fluctuates in the $325 range, corresponding to a total market capitalization of about $4.5 trillion, with a daily trading volume in the hundreds of millions.

On-chain volume is much smaller. According to CoinMarketCap, the total market capitalization of tokenized AAPL is approximately $150 million, with a 24-hour on-chain trading volume of between $7 million and $9 million. The largest product by scale is AAPLX (part of the xStocks series) issued by Backed Finance, with a circulating supply and total supply of about 500,869 tokens, a market capitalization of approximately $146 million, and about 15,000 holder addresses, ranked around 230th on CMC.

It is important to clarify that AAPL itself is not a cryptocurrency project; the "project" discussed in this report actually includes two layers—the Apple company equity as the underlying asset and the on-chain tokenized products built around that equity.

2. Project Introduction

Apple Inc. was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, went public in 1980, and is headquartered in Cupertino, California. It has approximately 164,000 full-time employees and primarily engages in consumer electronics hardware, software, and services.

In terms of financial performance, Apple’s revenue for fiscal year 2025 (ending September 27, 2025) is $416.16 billion, a year-on-year increase of about 6.4%, setting a record. After entering fiscal year 2026, growth has significantly accelerated: in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (ending December 27, 2025), revenue is $143.8 billion, a year-on-year growth of 16%, with diluted earnings per share of $2.84; in the second quarter (ending March 28, 2026), revenue is $111.2 billion, a year-on-year growth of 17%, with a net profit of $29.6 billion, diluted earnings per share of $2.01, and a gross margin of 49.3%, with double-digit growth achieved in all regional markets. The strong demand for the iPhone 17 series and the continued record highs in service revenue are the main drivers.

On the on-chain side, the rise of tokenized U.S. stocks began in 2025. The xStocks series launched by Backed Finance is based on 1:1 real stock custody, providing compliant on-chain stock exposure to non-U.S. users, with AAPLX being one of the most prominent varieties.

3. Products and Technology

Apple's product matrix centers around the iPhone, extending to Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro, while the software side covers operating systems such as iOS/macOS, and the services side includes the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple Pay. Its technological moat comes from self-developed chips (Apple Silicon) and the ecosystem stickiness brought by vertical integration of software and hardware.

The WWDC in June 2026 was a key turning point: Apple announced a deep collaboration with Google, stating that the new generation of Siri will be powered by the Gemini model and will provide cross-application operations, screen awareness, and personal context understanding capabilities in an independent app form, along with the release of iOS 27 and other "27 era" systems. This marks Apple's shift from a "self-developed first" approach to a "self-developed + external model" mixed AI strategy.

The technical structure of the tokenized product is relatively clear: the issuer holds a corresponding number of real AAPL stocks through a regulated custodian, minting tokens on-chain in a 1:1 ratio; smart contracts are responsible for issuance and transfers, while custodians provide proof of reserves. AAPLX is primarily deployed in the Solana ecosystem, while contract versions exist on other chains such as Arbitrum, allowing trading on centralized exchanges and DEX, and offering composability as DeFi collateral. The minting and redemption process is subject to KYC constraints, while secondary transfers are relatively free.

4. Economic Model

It is necessary to distinguish between two completely different models.

At the Apple company level, its capital return mechanism is mature: it distributes cash dividends quarterly, raising the quarterly dividend by 4% to $0.27 per share for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, while the board has also newly authorized a maximum stock repurchase plan of $100 billion. Continuous repurchases lead to a long-term contraction of circulating capital, making it one of the important sources of earnings per share growth.

At the token level, AAPLX does not have the conventional "token economics"—there is no pre-mining, no release curve, no governance token, and no protocol incentives. Its supply is entirely determined by market demand: when users subscribe, the issuer buys the underlying shares and mints an equal number of tokens; when redeeming, tokens are destroyed and the shares are released, resulting in an effectively unlimited maximum supply, while circulating supply and total supply remain equal. The token price is anchored to the underlying stock, with typically only a slight premium or discount between the two; when on-chain liquidity is insufficient, the price difference can be magnified.

5. Team and Investors

Apple is undergoing the most significant management transition in fifteen years. Tim Cook has announced that he will step down as CEO on September 1, 2026, to become executive chairman of the board, focusing on global policy and external relations; his successor will be John Ternus, the former Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. The Chief Financial Officer is Kevan Parekh, and the head of software engineering is Craig Federighi.

In terms of shareholder structure, Apple’s equity is highly dispersed, mainly held by large index funds and institutional asset managers, and is a core weighted stock in mainstream indices like the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100, therefore, passive capital's subscription and redemption can significantly impact its short-term liquidity.

On the token issuance side, xStocks is issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited registered in Jersey, with Kraken as the main centralized exchange distribution partner, and platforms like Bitrue and Gate also have listings. Additionally, institutions like Ondo and Dinari are also providing their own versions of tokenized AAPL products, forming a situation where multiple issuers coexist.

6. Roadmap

Visible milestones on the Apple side include: the official launch of iOS 27 and the new generation of Siri in fall 2026, completion of the CEO handover on September 1, and the regular fall new product release cycle. There has been much discussion about a foldable iPhone, but Apple has not officially confirmed this yet.

The pace on the tokenization side is also tight: Kraken and Backed have completed the launch of 100 xStocks and aim to expand to over 500 by the end of 2026; the U.S. DTCC plans to start a small-scale production environment trading of tokenized securities in July 2026 and advance commercialization within the year; Nasdaq's proposal for rules regarding tokenized securities is still ongoing discussions with regulators. These developments will determine whether tokenized U.S. stocks can transition from "niche products" to mainstream infrastructure.

7. Risks and Opportunities

On the risk side, the main pressures on Apple's fundamentals come from the costs of catching up in the AI race, a high dependency on the Chinese market and supply chain, global antitrust and regulatory scrutiny, and the uncertainty of revenue share related to search engines in its services business. The CEO transition combined with the restructuring of the AI strategy also brings execution uncertainties.

The risks on the tokenization side are more specific and warrant closer attention: first, the credit risk of both the issuer and custodian, as the value of the token ultimately relies on the payment ability of centralized institutions; second, regulatory risk, as xStocks is explicitly not registered with U.S. securities regulators and not open to U.S. users, and policy changes in various jurisdictions could directly impact product viability; third, liquidity risk, as $150 million in tokenized market capitalization is nearly negligible compared to the $40 trillion underlying market cap, and insufficient depth can lead to slippage and widening price spreads; fourth, price decoupling risk, since on-chain trading can still occur 24/7 during U.S. stock market closures, the lack of arbitrage channels can significantly amplify premiums or discounts.

On the opportunity side, the core value of tokenization lies in breaking down regional, time, and account-opening barriers, allowing non-U.S. users to access blue-chip stocks in a fragmented manner and connecting them to DeFi lending and settlement scenarios. If the tokenization paths of traditional infrastructures like DTCC and Nasdaq are successfully advanced, the compliance and liquidity of the entire sector could see substantial improvement.

8. Conclusion

AAPL is fundamentally solid, but the on-chain narrative is still in its early stages. Apple Inc. has robust cash flow and a clear capital return mechanism, returning to double-digit growth in the first two quarters of fiscal year 2026, while also undergoing the significant variables of an AI strategy restructuring and a CEO transition. Its tokenized version offers a new access pathway—1:1 real stock support, 24/7 trading, and DeFi composability, but the current tokenization scale of about $150 million and limited on-chain depth indicate that this is still a product in the validation phase.

For researchers, observing the on-chain progress of AAPL fundamentally means observing the maturity of the entire track of tokenized stocks: the quality of the underlying assets no longer needs verification, the real variables lie in whether the issuance structure, regulatory framework, and liquidity development can keep up.
