The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan resolution opposing the pardon of SBF.
On July 15, the U.S. Senate passed S.Res.772, which clearly states that under no circumstances should FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried receive a presidential pardon, commutation, or any other form of federal clemency.
The resolution was jointly introduced by Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego and Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis and was approved through unanimous consent, with no senator opposing. The resolution also mentions that SBF, who is serving a 25-year sentence, formally submitted a presidential pardon request in 2026.
However, this is a non-binding resolution that expresses the Senate's position and cannot restrict Trump from exercising his presidential pardon power, nor does it represent a recorded vote of 100 to 0 in the Senate.
