Trump does not allow Iran to charge for the Strait of Hormuz, but now, in the blink of an eye, the United States wants to charge for Hormuz.
Yesterday I thought Iran should be hit, but now I think Trump deserves to be punished more. Even Iran surely didn't intend to charge such an exaggerated 20%.
Now Trump plans to charge all ships passing through Hormuz a fee of 20% of their value, has the Republican Party gone crazy? And he wants to implement this immediately. I now feel that Trump and Iran are cut from the same cloth.
Understanding the blockade of Iran is one thing, but now the United States is shifting towards an evil role. There's no longer any qualification to self-proclaim as the international police; Trump essentially forces Hormuz into the jurisdiction of the United States.
The Strait of Hormuz is an international navigation strait; the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea requires coastal countries not to obstruct transit passage. Even under ordinary territorial sea passage rules, ships cannot be charged merely for passing through; fees can only be charged for specific services provided to specific vessels.
The International Maritime Organization has publicly reiterated that passage through the Strait of Hormuz should remain free of tolls and other charges.
