Goldman Sachs has released an interesting report on AI computing power between China and the United States!
First, it mentions that China's investment in AI data centers will reach 2 trillion RMB (approximately 300 billion USD) over the next five years, with huge CapEx expenditures, and most of the computing power will be located in the western region because electricity is cheap and the land is vast.
Here’s a side note, I think young people should take a look at the west; don’t just compete in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta. There are many opportunities in the western region for the future AI industry; even if you are an electrician or installer, there is great potential.
Secondly, it mentions that the cost of AI computing power in China seems cheap but is actually more expensive. When buying domestic chips, the capital expenditure per IT power is 40-50% cheaper than importing chips (commonly referred to as “buying cards cheap”). However, due to low computing power density and high power consumption, when converted to capital expenditure per computing power, domestically produced chips are actually 2-4 times more expensive than imports! More critically, the computing power extracted from each IT power is only 10% to 30% of that from imported chips.
Finally, there is a real comparison of the gap between Huawei and NVIDIA (as shown in 👇 Figure 2), with the report directly naming Huawei 910B and 910C. In actual servers, their average daily Token output is only 1/6 to 1/3 of NVIDIA's compliant version H800 from a few years ago (note that this is not even the original H100/H200).
The final conclusion is that the AI computing power battle between China and the United States has just begun, and the gap is still quite vast, so short-term AI CapEx expenditures will only increase, not decrease. Investment in AI hardware is far from over! 🧐
What do you all think?! 👀
