Singapore has two main payment methods, which are PayWave and PayNow.

PayWave is card swiping, which can also use APPLE PAY and GOOGLE PAY. Essentially, it is a contactless credit card payment, and it is currently the most popular payment method worldwide. However, the downside is that merchants incur gateway fees, so many small shops are not very fond of using PayWave as a payment method.

Using PayWave generally involves four actions: take out the phone, double-click the right-side button (IPHONE), facial recognition, and touch. (Watches will reduce the facial recognition action.)

PayNow is similar to WeChat + Alipay + bank transfer; it is essentially a bank transfer with almost no gateway fees. Many small shops use personal PayNow accounts to receive payments. PayNow is very similar to Hong Kong's FPS rapid transfer.

However, I am not very fond of PayNow because making a payment requires eight actions: take out the phone, unlock the phone, find the bank APP, open the APP, select scan code, facial recognition, scan the code, and confirm payment.

In terms of convenience, card swiping or payment methods like APPLE PAY are the simplest, especially since card swiping resolves it in one action. Therefore, like what Brother Lion said, I also completely cannot understand the reason why WeChat and Alipay are considered more convenient.

In 2019, I saw discussions on Zhihu where many people thought Hong Kong's payment system was very outdated, believing a transport card is not as useful as electronic payment. I find it difficult to understand.
