Since there are already real stocks, why introduce stock tokens?

Here, continuing the discussion from this morning, let’s talk about the current situation of CEX connecting to US stocks.

Binance recently launched bStocks, and today Gate @Gate_zh officially launched gStocks!

Many people might be a bit confused, what does this really mean?

If you can buy stocks, isn’t that enough? Why is there now another type?

Let’s take this opportunity with Gate's upgrade to clarify things!

1️⃣ What do you buy when you buy US stocks?

First, let’s mention that when we buy US stocks, most of the time we are referring to real stocks. What are real stocks? Buying stocks means buying a company; stocks address the most basic authenticity, meaning you truly own the stock, along with the dividends, company actions, etc.

2️⃣ What is gStocks?

gStocks is the tokenization of stocks. Each gStock has a 1:1 equivalent real stock as a reserve, addressing the issue of capital efficiency.

In other words, the same asset can do more; you can use your stock assets for trading, margin, DeFi staking and lending, and many things that were previously not possible.

3️⃣ The relationship between the two!

Thus, the two are not in competition, but rather complementary: one links traditional finance, while the other connects to the Crypto ecosystem.

Therefore, the recent movements in Cex, especially starting from Gate's upgrade, show that the future competition of CEX in US stocks will definitely not just stop at who can buy US stocks.

Because buying US stocks alone can be done by traditional brokers, the real competition will turn into:

Who can combine US stock assets and Crypto account systems more deeply? Who can make an asset work simultaneously in holding, trading, lending, wealth management, strategies, and cross-market allocation is the key.
