SEC initiates ETF rule review, focuses on crypto funds and prediction market ETFs
The U.S. SEC announced on Tuesday that it is seeking public comments on the regulatory approach for "novel ETFs" and assessing whether adjustments to the existing fund registration and listing processes are needed. This review comes in the context of the rapid expansion of crypto ETFs and an increase in applications related to prediction market ETFs.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated that the regulatory body wants to hear market opinions to ensure that the U.S. ETF market can effectively serve investors while continuing to grow and innovate. Massachusetts revises lawsuit: Kalshi accused of targeting users under 21 with sports betting
The Massachusetts Attorney General has been approved by the court to submit a revised lawsuit against the prediction market platform Kalshi, adding allegations that Kalshi markets to users under 21 through social media and college campuses and has not taken effective measures to prevent their use of the platform. Kalshi allows individuals over 18 to create accounts and bet on sports events. The case began in September 2025, with state authorities accusing Kalshi of offering sports betting in violation of state law. The CFTC previously submitted a brief in Massachusetts claiming exclusive jurisdiction over prediction markets, with Chairman Michael Selig stating that Congress has granted the CFTC exclusive authority to regulate commodity derivatives markets. Jefferies warns: Legislative uncertainty of the CLARITY Act may trigger crypto market volatility
According to the latest report from investment bank Jefferies, despite the Senate Banking Committee approving the U.S. "Clarity Act" with a bipartisan vote of 15:9, subsequent legislative processes still face significant obstacles, and political uncertainty may exacerbate crypto market volatility in the coming weeks. This bill aims to clarify the boundaries of digital asset regulation between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and is seen as a core legislative framework for the structure of the U.S. crypto market. Jefferies points out that if passed smoothly, it will significantly enhance institutional participation, while delays will prolong regulatory uncertainty.
Peter Schiff questions optimistic BTC market expectations: Why is $20,000 impossible again?
Economist and gold supporter Peter Schiff stated in his latest comments that the market widely believes that Bitcoin dropping to $20,000 is "almost impossible," but this judgment lacks basis. Schiff pointed out that Bitcoin fell below $20,000 about 3.5 years ago, and that time is not far away, so the possibility of returning to that price range cannot be ruled out; significant corrections within short periods in financial markets are not uncommon. He further stated that due to Bitcoin's higher volatility compared to most stocks, similar magnitude corrections "are entirely reasonable" under changing macroeconomic or liquidity environments, and the market should not underestimate the downside risks.
