Iran announces the closure of the Strait of Hormuz again
Iran really treats the Strait of Hormuz as a cash cow; the Iranians insist that the United States must comply with the signed memorandum of understanding, especially the first clause, where both parties have agreed to respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which includes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.
Therefore, Iran believes that unless Lebanon completely ceases fire, peace talks will not continue. This includes Israel having to withdraw its troops from Iranian territory. But currently, Israel is still attacking Lebanon.
Thus, the Iranian Central Military Command stated that due to Israel’s attacks on southern Lebanon violating the agreement between Iran and the United States, they have opted to close the Strait of Hormuz.
However, from the current shipping situation in the Strait of Hormuz, there are still a large number of vessels with AIS signals near the Strait of Hormuz, in the Gulf of Oman, and offshore UAE, and ships can still be seen moving in the channel. There has not been a complete clearance of the main shipping channel, nor a significant number of vessels turning back or all vessels anchoring and waiting.
Therefore, the United States has also stated that on that day, 55 commercial ships passed through, transporting more than 17 million barrels of oil; the Strait of Hormuz is not closed.
PS: Normal pre-war levels were about 130 ships passing through each day.
