In the middle of the night, Anthropic officially announced a surprising deal at the second Code with Claude developer conference in San Francisco.

Anthropic signed a contract with SpaceX to rent all the computing power of the Colossus 1 data center, approximately 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, 300 megawatts capacity, to be delivered this month.

Immediately following was the doubling of the five-hour limit for Claude Code on the same day, and the maximum rate limit for Opus API increased by up to 16 times.

Wait... who did they rent the computing power from? Musk?!!!

Wasn't Musk just criticizing Anthropic on X recently... The adult world is too chaotic.

Anthropic's official account released an announcement about the cooperation with SpaceX, with 2.57 million views.

Claude has computing power now

It just feels like Claude has been exploding... exploding... and exploding. I checked the Status and was shocked... How was I able to keep working under such responses... I'm amazing.

And now that there is computing power, Claude is making the following changes starting today.

• The five-hour rate limit for Claude Code is doubled for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise versions. The heavily impacted users of Claude Code will see their limit directly multiplied by two.

• The peak hour limits for Pro and Max users have been eliminated; previously, using Claude Code during peak hours would result in extra throttling, but now, limits are consistent throughout the day without differentiating peak and off-peak times.

• The API rate limits for Claude Opus have been significantly increased; Tier 1 input tokens per minute have risen from 30,000 to 500,000 (16 times), and output from 8,000 to 80,000 (10 times). Tier 4 input has increased from 2 million to 10 million, and output from 400,000 to 800,000.

Musk turned around

I have to say, there are two remarkable figures in this world: the understanding king and Musk... you can never guess what they're going to do next.

Recall that earlier this year, SpaceX merged with xAI, after which the valuation reached $1.25 trillion. Musk was more frequent in criticizing Anthropic on X compared to OpenAI, calling it "hates Western civilization," and said Dario was "projecting."

In March, the Pentagon listed Anthropic as a supply chain risk, while Musk's xAI secured a military contract. From the outside, this appeared to be a confrontation between two camps... and then today, the deal was officially announced.

Musk replied under this post, mentioning that he spent a lot of time meeting with Anthropic executives last week.

From "misanthropic" to "no evil detector," only a week's worth of senior meetings and a data center lease separate them.

However, Musk also added that SpaceX reserves the right to revoke computing power from Anthropic if its AI "causes harm to humanity."

Computing Power Puzzle

Objectively speaking, this deal is currently the only large-scale computing power that Anthropic can immediately access.

Anthropic signed a series of astonishingly large computing power agreements, but most of the capacity will not be online until the end of 2026 or 2027.

Amazon has a 5GW agreement, with nearly 1GW of new capacity planned to arrive before the end of 2026.

The Google + Broadcom 5GW agreement will gradually launch starting from 2027.

Microsoft + NVIDIA has a $30 billion Azure capacity.

Fluidstack has a $50 billion investment in U.S. AI infrastructure.

The total capacity from these four major deals exceeds 10GW, but it's not enough to quench immediate thirst. SpaceX's Colossus 1 will be usable this month, directly alleviating the most urgent computing power shortage.

Anthropic is running Claude on three chips: AWS Trainium, Google TPU, and NVIDIA GPU. This multi-line betting strategy provides more room to maneuver in the computing power competition of 2026.

Overseas and Space

Anthropic also revealed two pieces of information on their blog.

First, international expansion. Enterprises in regulated industries, such as finance, healthcare, and government, increasingly need data to remain on domestic infrastructure. Anthropic’s partnership with Amazon now includes reasoning nodes in Asia and Europe. Anthropic emphasizes that it will only deploy in "democratic countries," requiring the legal framework and supply chain of partners to be safe and controllable.

Second, space data centers. Anthropic formally expressed interest in collaborating with SpaceX to develop "multi-gigawatt-level orbital AI computing power" in the agreement. In January of this year, SpaceX submitted an application to the FCC to deploy AI data centers in orbit with a million satellites. Anthropic became the first major model company to publicly express the intention to participate.

Another detail: Anthropic previously announced that it would bear the increased electricity costs for residents due to its U.S. data center, and now it states it will also explore similar commitments in international expansions.

The Density of the Same Week

This deal with SpaceX is just one part of Anthropic's intensive announcements this week.

On Monday, Anthropic announced the establishment of a $1.5 billion joint venture for enterprise AI services with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs.

On Tuesday, during the New York financial services special event, Claude Opus was launched.

4.7, 10 agent templates for the financial industry, complete integration with Microsoft 365, and in-depth access to Moody's. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Dario Amodei shared the stage.

On Wednesday, the Code with Claude San Francisco station opened, the SpaceX computing power transaction was announced, and the Claude limit doubled on the same day.

Anthropic's current financing valuation negotiations have reached $900 billion. From computing power layout to product line expansion to industry penetration, the rhythm is very intense.
