The U.S. military fired on a vessel flying the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Oman.

On May 6 at 9 AM Eastern Time, the U.S. military implemented blockade measures in the Gulf of Oman and prohibited a tanker flying the Iranian flag that was attempting to sail to an Iranian port.

The U.S. Central Command forces observed the chemical tanker Hasna as it passed through international waters en route to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. forces issued multiple warnings and informed the vessel flying the Iranian flag that its actions violated U.S. blockade measures.

After the Hasna's crew failed to comply with several warnings, U.S. forces dispatched a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln, which fired several rounds from its 20mm cannon, causing the tanker’s steering gear to fail. The Hasna will no longer head to Iran.

The U.S. blockade against vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports remains fully in effect. U.S. military forces will continue to take measured and professional actions to ensure compliance.
