The little fairies of today have become obsessed with smoking:
It seems that if they smell a hint of smoke, they feel like they could get lung cancer in the next second. In fact, waiting for a bus for 10 minutes at a busy bus stop exposes you to car exhaust that is equivalent to smoking half a pack of cigarettes!
Humans have always been inseparable from smoke. The ashes of bonfires have been found at sites of the Beijing Homo Erectus and Lantian people, and they even lit fires in caves. Shifting cultivation has been a traditional farming method in China, and the smoke from burning wild land is far more complex in composition than tobacco smoke. Ancient lighting relied entirely on torches, candles, and oil lamps that produced a lot of smoke and dust;
When I was a child in the countryside, the smoke from the stove while cooking made my eyes unable to open. Truly, it was a faint wisp of smoke. At night, to drive away mosquitoes, burning mugwort caused runny noses and tears; this is the smoke of human life;
An important mark distinguishing humans from animals is the use of fire. Humans have coexisted with smoke for millions of years, and now, in less than a hundred years of moving to the city, we have evolved to the point where we can't stand even a hint of tobacco smell? Have the little fairies devolved into animals? Or have they become unaccustomed to the smoke of human life?
