Al Jazeera: It's not so easy for Trump to withdraw from the war against Iran

Despite President Trump's claim that military actions against Iran will end in two to three weeks, an Iranian foreign policy expert indicated that the war is unlikely to end swiftly, and the Strait of Hormuz is also unlikely to suddenly reopen.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute stated that Iran will continue to control the Strait of Hormuz and is likely to continue firing at it.

"I don’t think Trump can easily walk away to end this conflict," Parsi said.

He pointed out that Trump's suggestion of reopening the strait is an attempt to create a narrative of success, asserting it is not America's goal in the war against Iran.

However, Parsi added that the President is also expressing dissatisfaction with the Europeans, as they are unwilling to help him reopen this vital waterway.

"The United States has the largest and most powerful navy in the world. If the U.S. can’t do it, what difference would it make if France and other European countries went in?" Parsi said.

"Seeing that the Europeans are unwilling to be part of this farce, he's venting to them, saying, look, the U.S. does not need the Strait of Hormuz, it’s you who are getting hurt, so you have to solve this problem yourselves."

Parsi also stated that as actions progress, he sees Trump's goals being "Israelized."

"He says he wants to send the Iranians back to the Stone Age, which is essentially Americanizing the war goals into those of Israel."
