I personally recommend countries and regions that I have investigated as potential places to settle — Dubai.

If we are just talking about relocation, Dubai ranks in my top five countries. Many friends may not have been to Dubai and think it is filled with luxury cars and mansions, with rich people wearing cloth on their heads, and that the cost of living must be sky-high. However, in reality, the cost of living in Dubai is comparable to that of Tokyo, and some products are even slightly cheaper, making it much more affordable than Hong Kong and Singapore.

A 350ML bottle of Coca-Cola in Dubai costs 3.5 dirhams, which is less than 7 RMB, roughly equivalent to 1 USD. A pound of strawberries is about 30 dirhams, a kilogram of apples is around 9 dirhams, a kilogram of watermelon is 3 dirhams, a pack of cabbage is 8 dirhams, a kilogram of cucumbers is 3 dirhams, green peppers are 5 dirhams, corn is 7 dirhams, and a bunch of greens is about 4 dirhams.

The cost of living in Dubai is much cheaper than many friends imagine. Eating a meal at a regular restaurant for 50 dirhams is quite common. Of course, there are also luxurious places where a meal can cost 5,000 dirhams, but there are both expensive and cheap options everywhere.

For someone like me who stays at home, the cost of living in Dubai is not high. Many Chinese friends prefer to live in International City, also known as Chinatown, where a two-bedroom apartment of about 100 square meters can be rented for 6,000 to 7,000 dirhams per month. If the requirements are not too high, it can be even cheaper. As for food, Dubai's takeout has been significantly influenced by China and is now very affordable and cost-effective.

In terms of education, Dubai is not particularly strong, but there are quite a few international schools that are willing to spend money. The teacher from my elementary school was lured away by a high-paying job at an international school in Dubai, reportedly earning double the salary in Singapore.

Currently, staying in Dubai mainly involves work visas, and the industry is quite mature, so there are no major issues. The costs are not high either. In the past two years, with a large number of people leaving, the security in Dubai has improved significantly. I estimate that living in Dubai would require about 3,000 USD per month, and for a family, around 5,000 USD would be sufficient. For schooling, the average price for mid-range international schools gradually increases with age, averaging around 3,000 USD.

The medical conditions in Dubai are quite good for the Middle East, and insurance is still necessary. Both public and private hospitals are available, and since both can be reimbursed, private hospitals are more convenient. Moreover, communication in English in Dubai is completely fine.

Of course, there are downsides to Dubai; it is extremely hot, especially in the summer. Stepping outside can feel like being roasted alive. I once walked a kilometer in the midday heat during summer and ended up lying in a hotel for three days, thanks to some medicine sent by a friend of Hai Teng, which prevented me from collapsing in Dubai.

Besides the heat, there are also many scammers in Dubai. Scammers have infiltrated every aspect of life here. Buying counterfeit alcohol and cigarettes is common, and falling victim to financial scams is also frequent. However, Dubai makes it very convenient for cryptocurrency transactions, so there is no need to worry about that. Overall, as long as you don't expect to get something for nothing and just focus on living, Dubai is quite nice.

The real estate market in Dubai is currently in a development phase, with prices not considered high and showing some upward trends. Therefore, buying property in Dubai is quite popular in the crypto community, especially since several well-known exchanges have operations in Dubai, making it likely to meet fellow crypto enthusiasts there, especially since Chinese passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to Dubai.

What else is there? I have been living in Dubai intermittently for over a month in 2025 and have basically explored the area. The prices in Dubai cannot be considered cheap compared to China, but among the conveniently selectable countries, Dubai is not high. Its advantages include a high degree of freedom, the ability to hear Chinese almost everywhere, a very friendly environment for cryptocurrency, and obtaining a work visa is not difficult. However, obtaining permanent residency and citizenship is nearly impossible.

Living in Dubai is quite comfortable, although it is not very friendly to girls; it is very dry and sunny, which is not good for the skin. However, Dubai's political stability, social security, and healthy financial environment are not found in many Southeast Asian countries. If I had to choose, I would find Japan more comfortable than Dubai, provided I learn Japanese. Dubai is more suitable for those with a bit of financial freedom; under sufficient funding, the comfort level of living in Dubai surpasses that of Singapore.

This is just my personal opinion.

@bitget VIP, lower fees, better benefits.
