Sei made a super big news.

Sei has made a huge announcement.

@SeiNetwork has announced a strategic partnership with Xiaomi, and its Web3 applications will be pre-installed on Xiaomi's new devices.

However, after a deeper analysis, several key questions need to be answered:

First, what does pre-installation mean? How deep is the real depth of this cooperation?

Second, the new Xiaomi devices in China and the U.S. do not participate in pre-installation; what is the actual impact?

1️/ Strategic Significance of Pre-Installation

Let’s first address the first question— the strategic significance of pre-installation.

On a physical level, pre-installation brings a convenient out-of-the-box experience.

Imagine this scenario: when you open a brand new Xiaomi phone, there’s no need to open the app store or manually download and install anything.

The Sei application is already present on the phone's home screen by default, just like the camera, calendar, or settings.

From a strategic perspective,

Sei is attempting to bypass the distribution limitations of traditional app stores by controlling the hardware entry point (Xiaomi phones) and directly putting crypto payments into the hands of global smartphone users.

Think of the successful precedents of Microsoft pre-installing the IE browser in Windows and Apple pre-installing Safari on the iPhone.

2/ Market Coverage

The second question— the real scale of market coverage.

Xiaomi's global shipment volume is expected to be about 170 million units by 2025, with specific distribution as follows:

Domestic China: approximately 22% - 25% (about 40 million units)

Indian market: approximately 15% - 18% (about 25-30 million units)

European market: approximately 18% - 20% (about 30-34 million units)

Southeast Asia: approximately 15% (about 25 million units)

Latin America/Middle East/Africa: approximately 22% - 25%

The U.S. market has almost zero impact on Xiaomi.

Subtracting the largest domestic market share in China, this cooperation means that the Sei application will be pre-installed on about 130 million new Xiaomi devices.

To make an intuitive comparison, Coinbase currently has a total user base of about 105 million.

3/ Conclusion

The conclusion is

This is the largest hardware distribution event in crypto history, not just a small pilot project.

I am really curious how Sei managed to secure such a large-scale partnership.
