The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has included a group of blockchain industry executives alongside their traditional finance counterparts in the newly established CEO Innovation Council.
According to an announcement released on Wednesday, the CEO Innovation Council will discuss market structure developments related to the derivatives markets regulated by the CFTC.
The main discussion topics include "tokenization, crypto assets, 24/7 trading, perpetual contracts, prediction markets, and blockchain market infrastructure."
The list of participants includes leaders from crypto exchanges and prediction markets such as Polymarket, Kalshi, Kraken, Gemini, Bitnomial, Crypto.com, and Bullish.
In addition to the CEOs from the crypto sector, traditional finance counterparts come from major exchanges such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group, Cboe Global Markets, Nasdaq, Intercontinental Exchange, and the London Stock Exchange Group.
"We established the CFTC CEO Innovation Council on the successful foundation of the CFTC Crypto CEO Forum and the SEC-CFTC Joint Roundtable, focusing on market structure developments in the derivatives market," said CFTC Acting Chair Caroline Pham.
The CFTC's latest initiative comes just days after Acting Chair Caroline Pham announced a pilot program for a crypto collateral derivatives market.
This pilot will allow futures commission merchants registered with the CFTC to accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Circle's USDC stablecoin as margin collateral, allowing the CFTC to test the integration of crypto assets in regulated markets.
So far, Pham's leadership indicates that the CFTC is willing to actively engage with the crypto market and establish clear guidelines for the sector—something that has previously been seen as a more challenging task for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Earlier this year, the CFTC also launched the Crypto CEO Forum, composed of CEOs from major companies such as Coinbase, Circle, and Ripple. Pham vowed to "deliver on the Trump administration's commitment to ensure that the U.S. leads in economic opportunities."
