The event where Milksad exposed hundreds of thousands of Bitcoins to risk yesterday has caused fear among many;

In fact, there is no need for concern, as this incident is unrelated to most ordinary people. It is not the Bitcoin network that has been "hacked," but rather the randomness of human-generated numbers.

The source is an open-source tool called Libbitcoin Explorer (bx).

It was originally used to generate wallet seeds, but it ended up using a "pseudo-random" algorithm.

This is not a systemic issue caused by a vulnerability in the Bitcoin system!

If we purchase a genuine hardware wallet, especially one bought after 2018, whether we let the device generate the mnemonic phrase and properly make metal/offline backups, or if we know how to safely set up an offline environment to generate our own mnemonic phrases, as long as we ensure that the source of entropy is truly random and completely offline, and we make metal-grade backups and store them in a distributed manner, your wallet is very likely to have no issues.

Checking method:

1️⃣ Visit the link above (recommended to open in a secure environment).

2️⃣ Download vulnerable_addresses.txt or a similar file from the data folder.

3️⃣ Use text search (Ctrl + F / grep) to look for your Bitcoin address in your wallet.

4️⃣ If a match is found, it indicates that the address is on the risk list.

5️⃣ If no match is found, it means it is currently not publicly listed, but it still cannot guarantee 100% safety of the private key (as some may not be disclosed).
