“Are you really born after 2005?”
On September 26, Enheng just celebrated his 20th birthday, forcibly tearing off the label of “19-year-old boy in the crypto world.” But for this young man, age is the least worth mentioning; being the prince of Binance, a student at A9, and a KOL with 76,000 followers better outlines his current image. “Compared to my peers, I am at a relatively high level now, whether in experience or wealth,” from a boy who only wanted to earn $300 a month in the crypto world to a figure who now possesses both wealth and influence, Enheng has completed a standard “blockchain comeback.”
However, in reality, Enheng is very privacy-conscious and does not flaunt his wealth. Born in 2005, he studies at a school in Beijing, but during the interview, he was “retreating” at his home in Shenzhen, which has a monthly rent of 14,000 yuan. “The atmosphere in Shenzhen is better; I only return to school when exams are near. My family and classmates don’t know I’m in the crypto world; they only know I’ve made some money.” Unlike the image he presents on social media, Enheng appears gentle and naive in front of the camera, always smiling, but he repeatedly emphasizes that if he is to release a video, it must be blurred.
This is not the first time I have seen Enheng. During the Hong Kong Web 3 Carnival in early April this year, at an evening event organized by BNB Chain, while most people crowded in front of the stage to “visit” CZ, a young man smoothly made his way through the crowd, smiling as he walked straight to the front row. I asked my colleague who he was, and my colleague said he was “the prince of Binance,” Enheng.
Prince of Binance: An Innate Marketing Talent
The title “Prince of Binance” only appeared above Enheng’s head in February this year. At that time, during a period when the meme market was hit by the Rug pull of the Argentine president’s token, Enheng initiated a funding activity for affected university students and “geniusly” chose BSC as the target chain.
In the two days before the post was released, not many people paid attention to this small figure’s initiative, but two days later, a personal reply from Binance founder CZ pushed this funding activity into the spotlight, with the post’s views skyrocketing to 1.07 million, marking a turning point in Enheng’s life as he “flew up the branches to become a prince.”
“It’s like selecting generals; whoever CZ points to will have a turning point,” Enheng does not deny the value of CZ’s reply, “but CZ’s money isn’t easy to get; there was excitement when I first received it, but after that came endless pressure.” Enheng does not want to disappoint CZ’s trust, but there were many unexpected situations during this funding activity (such as malicious exploitation). However, he believes the final result was still satisfactory, “At the Binance event in Taiwan, two volunteers came to thank me, saying that the donations at that time helped them in a timely manner.”
Perhaps for CZ, this was just an act of kindness and marketing with a ratio of 1:9 for BSC, spending $100,000 to capture the attention of top Degen from Solana is a bargain. In February this year, CZ officially returned to the “trenches,” using his personal influence to build the BSC ecosystem, aiming to attract players, funds, and project parties to BSC.
“I believe in CZ, so I think about the meaning behind the content he posts,” Enheng’s choice of BSC as the target chain for donations was like guessing that CZ would reply, but Enheng denied my thought of “measuring a gentleman’s heart with a villain’s mind,” emphasizing that it was truly a coincidence; he chose BSC simply because he made money on TST, “I just wanted to contribute to BSC.”
After ending this topic, Enheng excused himself to drink water and reappeared in front of the camera wearing a T-shirt with the BNB Chain logo.
The crypto world is not just a simple competition of trading and research; to truly thrive, one must also know how to leverage and market. Besides CZ, Sun Yuchen is Enheng’s second idol, “I didn’t know about Bitcoin when I first saw Sun Ge, but I have always admired his thoughts.”
Opening Enheng’s Twitter, the background image shows him with CZ and Sun Yuchen. Taking photos with celebrities or big figures is often driven by social recognition and commemorative experience psychology, but it can also be a very effective self-marketing strategy, showcasing one’s identity and value, making it “exchangeable” capital.
Enheng’s memorable moment with Sun Yuchen was on April 4 this year when Sun Yuchen held a press conference in Hong Kong about being scammed out of $500 million. Enheng did not miss the opportunity to take advantage of the exposure environment created by Sun Yuchen, rushing to the press conference to give him a bottle of hand cream.
In addition to mingling at the event, Enheng also frequently interacts with Sun Yuchen on social media. Although he hasn’t received many replies from Sun Yuchen, he has gained exposure at a very low cost. However, after going all in on BNB, Enheng also actively reduced his close interactions with Sun Yuchen. Enheng said that his relationship with Sun Yuchen has always been fine, and they still keep in touch privately.
In July, Enheng specifically traveled from Shenzhen to Harbin to buy a Rolex watch priced at over 349,000 yuan and asked the seller, who is a Douyin influencer, to film a short video for him. “When he heard I was 19, he said he wouldn’t film it. I said you can’t have a bias against the crypto industry, and in the end, we communicated and filmed one.”
Just after turning 20, Enheng launched a “$1 million airdrop event for his 20th birthday,” requiring participants to register for Aster through his link. That evening, Enheng posted on social media that as long as he was tagged in the group chat, he would send red envelopes. Along with the red envelopes, he also sent out Aster tutorial advertisements.
“Is there really no one guiding you behind the scenes?” I asked this question twice.
“I’m also surprised; I don’t know why so many people pay attention,” Enheng said that many of the things he does are not considered marketing, but the results are always unexpected.
“So how do you feel about being called the prince of Binance by outsiders?”
“Yijie said, as long as you buy BNB, everyone is the prince of Binance, so hurry and join.” Enheng once again easily dodged the question.
A speck of dust from Binance can become a mountain of gold for individuals
Enheng often thanks Binance and CZ He Yi on social media because the results he has achieved are basically realized on BSC. Enheng entered the crypto world in 2022 through a rebate blogger on Douyin, later struggling with less than 20,000 yuan in the digital collectibles and contract battlefield, ultimately completing his original wealth accumulation this year in the BSC ecosystem.
Outsiders speculate that Enheng’s assets have reached A9, but Enheng states that he does not actually have that much and is currently at the A8-A9 stage. At my strong request, Enheng revealed his VIP 2 Binance account.
The doubts about Enheng may stem from people’s disbelief and jealousy towards such an outstanding young man, but he indeed bet correctly on Binance. If you ask what kind of bull market will 2025 be? The answer should be the Binance bull market. Starting from the second half of 2024, whatever Binance wants to do will succeed.
In the first half of 2024, Binance was also embroiled in community crises such as VC coins and listing conspiracy groups, and its reputation and brand power temporarily declined. However, in the second half of the year, Binance successfully restored its reputation by launching a high density of meme coins, creating countless stories of sudden wealth. The next meme coin Binance supports will become the market’s main theme; in 2025, CZ will vigorously support the construction of BNB Chain, while igniting a frenzy on-chain, making BNB Chain the most active L1 besides Solana; then Binance will enter the wallet market, positioning itself as the number one in the wallet market through the Binance Alpha airdrop, and how to farm Binance Alpha has become a paid course for bloggers; now the DEX track has also benefited from Binance, with the wealth effect created by Aster making Prep DEX the most关注的赛道. After a series of successful preparations, BNB also broke through the $1,000 mark, setting a new historical high, and the Binance bull market reached its peak.
Many people believe that the key to Binance’s success is its ability to create a wealth effect; in every cycle experienced by Binance, there are people who successfully seize opportunities to accumulate wealth. A speck of dust from Binance can become a mountain of gold for individuals. Enheng understood this principle back in February of this year, “Since February, when CZ almost officially returned, I have started to focus all my energy on the BSC ecosystem.”
Betting on the right track is a thousand times more important than hard work. “My first bucket of gold in a real sense was when CZ retweeted TST,” at that time Enheng bought $30,000 worth of TST and eventually sold it for a profit of about $400,000. Since then, Enheng has closely followed Binance and CZ, seizing one opportunity after another; Mubarak, Sky AI, and now Aster are all achievements he can showcase. “I bought about $50,000 of B before it was purchased by the WLFI project, and when the hype rose, I directly made almost 30 times,” through investing in B, Enheng has already stepped into A8.
Aster is an opportunity for Enheng to reach A9; he invested about $400,000 in Aster, but he told me that he doesn’t actually care how much he makes in Aster in the short term; he wants to accompany it in long-term development.
I asked to see his Aster holdings, but he refused. I asked him, “What if you secretly sell it in the short term?”
“If I sell Aster in the short term, it must be because my personal cash flow has encountered problems, or I want to avoid risks in the short term,” Enheng answered very firmly.
“February's blow almost pushed me off the cliff”
Like any other person in the crypto world who has made money and remains active, Enheng is also controversial and polarizing.
“Most relationships in the crypto world are bound by interests, but there can also be genuine emotions and friendships,” Enheng said that since going all in on crypto three years ago, his main good friends are those he met during trading, and he considers himself a grateful person. However, a storm in February had a particularly significant impact on Enheng, “That blow almost pushed me off the cliff.”
In February, Enheng earned the title of “Prince of Binance,” but he fell into a personal crisis. At that time, several people in the crypto world exposed his questionable character, accusing him of taking advantage of friends, leaking entertainment videos, secretly issuing a meme coin with the same name, and slandering female newcomers in the crypto space. When I brought these up, Enheng responded, “99% of it is slander; which famous boss in the crypto world hasn’t been slandered?”
According to the exposers, Enheng is a person with heavy thoughts; during their first meeting, he not only gifted perfume but also treated a meal costing over 1,000 yuan per person, and even fought to pay the bill with someone driving a sports car, later taking the subway home. “It’s basic etiquette for a younger person to treat an elder to a meal,” Enheng does not deny the truth of this incident, but he adds that the sports car wasn’t very expensive and might have changed hands several times.
Compared to these incidents' harm, Enheng said what hurt him the most was the betrayal of friends, “It’s like you give your back to a brother, but he stabs you in the back; it really hurts.” He mentioned that he wasn’t good at refusing others at that time, and 80% of his outings to entertainment venues were also passive. “That incident made me see the ugliness of human nature, but it also made me more rational in my actions afterward; looking back, every step was a lesson,” when he mentioned “ugliness,” Enheng’s tone noticeably intensified.
In this melting pot of the crypto world, these scandals may not seem like a big deal; who is completely innocent? The audience seeks excitement, not right or wrong. But perhaps for this 19-year-old, who entered the crypto world solely to change his fate, the leaks about his private life and the overwhelming negative attacks against him online still make him question himself late at night.
“Do you still have contact with them now?”
“There will be no contact, no contact,” Enheng repeated twice.
Why interview Enheng?
On September 23, I sent Enheng a WeChat message saying I wanted to write an article about him, and he gladly agreed to my interview request. However, the idea of interviewing Enheng was actually something I fought for with the editor. In early September, when Enheng refunded the 200,000 USD group fee, I had the idea of an interview, but the editor rejected it; when Aster became popular and Enheng stepped back into the spotlight, I proposed the interview idea again. This was the first time I repeated a topic proposal, and after discussion, the topic was finally approved.
I have always believed that Enheng is a typical figure worth discussing; he may not be able to articulate profound statements, but he represents a different real state of grassroots post-00s/05s in Web 3. The post-00s are taking over the world, and they are also taking over Web 3, but the differences between people are enormous.
Some post-00s have founded remarkable projects (like pump.fun) and joined impressive companies; they are hot talents who should stand in the spotlight, and their future words will be pushed as news by the media; but there is also a group of post-00s who, after passionately investing in Web 3, choose to “exit the circle.” They feel emptiness, meaninglessness, and their ideals are crushed in the crypto world; they are ordinary, morally high-minded, yet desperate workers in Web 3 (Related reading: The first batch of post-00s Web 3 workers have begun to “exit the circle”); and there is another group of post-00s who do not have high education, have received fewer resources in reality, have no quantifiable advantages in the workplace, and possess a strong desire to make money while believing that blockchain can change their fate.
This last group is actually the majority of post-00s in the crypto world. Many of them have accumulated wealth through various means; some start with high-leverage contracts, some make money by closely monitoring Musk’s tweets and buying at the bottom, some contact artists to issue tokens at the top, and some curry favor with KOLs to gain insider resources.
Although not everyone’s way of achieving initial accumulation is glamorous, and perhaps their experiences do not have any extractable essence or universal reference, their stories deserve to be seen.
My interview with Enheng is not to sing praises for his achievements or to defame him; I just want to showcase more faces of post-00s in the crypto world. Sometimes they appear cunning, sometimes they are contemptible, but they are also trying in their own ways to push their fate forward an inch. A young person betting on possibilities with limited resources is, in my view, worth recording no matter what.
