I'm here to offend people again: @SentientAGI is essentially a shadow project of Polygon.
To clarify everything, let's first introduce a key figure, Sandeep Nailwal.
Who is Sandeep? He is:
The current controlling person of Polygon (in June of this year, Sandeep was appointed as the first CEO of the Polygon Foundation)
The only remaining original founder of Polygon (the other two founders left Polygon in 2023)
What role does Sandeep play in Sentient?
According to Rootdata, Sandeep is a "core contributor" to Sentient.
However, in last year's press release regarding Sentient's financing, many media outlets described Sandeep as a "co-founder" of Sentient.
Interestingly, former Polygon Vice President of Investments Sachi Kamiya also joined Sentient as the BD Director. This personnel movement is hard to call a coincidence.
In contrast, the two founders of Sentient have a slightly weaker presence (and they are also Indians).
Himanshu Tyagi: Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science
Pramod Viswanath: Professor of Engineering at Princeton University
Before Sentient, the two professors co-founded another project called Witness Chain, which is still operational but clearly lacks significant market recognition.
The official Telegram group for Witness Chain has only 103 members.
From a business logic perspective, this arrangement is actually quite clever:
Polygon needs to lay out its strategy in the AI sector
By adopting the form of an "independent" project, it can maintain strategic flexibility while avoiding risks
This is a version of the common "internal incubation + independent operation" model used by large companies.
