The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Trump's approval rating at 42%.
Interpretation: When Trump first took office in 2025, his approval rating was 47%, with a low of 37%. It has slightly rebounded now, but generally speaking, if a U.S. president's approval rating is below 50%, it indicates a relatively weak position.
CNN data experts point out that in core areas such as the economy, trade, and immigration, Trump's net approval rating (approval rate minus disapproval rate) is negative, especially with the economy at -14 and trade at -17.
Weakness in the labor market, rising inflation, and unmet employment expectations are all reasons for the decline in Trump's approval rating.
