I boldly predict that the future operations of @WalrusProtocol may be:
1/ Announcing the second phase of the airdrop activity, requiring staking or holding $WAL. Essentially, this locks circulation, reduces selling pressure while lowering the difficulty of operation.
2/ Announcing expansion to other well-known public chains like Solana, broadening the narrative ceiling, "starting with Sui, but not ending with Sui."
There have actually been signs of this. The Walrus team has clearly mentioned that while coordination and payment rely on the Sui blockchain, data storage itself is not limited to Sui—developers from other chains like Solana and Ethereum can also integrate Walrus as a storage solution.
3/ Reserve play, following $IP. I noticed that both $IP and $WAL are backed by Grayscale and a16z. On August 11, a Nasdaq-listed company announced the establishment of a $IP reserve and raised $220 million from institutions like a16z.
Grayscale also launched $IP and $WAL trusts, and a16z invested in both Walrus and Story. If Walrus replicates Story's path, we might see: a listed company announcing that Walrus storage services will be a core infrastructure and allocating $WAL as a strategic reserve.
Of course, the above is mostly speculation. If this script really plays out, I could totally go be a consultant for small to medium projects 🤣
