🚨 Safety Reminder | Just one operation almost cost me 10 ETH!
Here's what happened—
Just now, I was about to transfer funds from my Android backup device to another device. After copying and pasting the address, I habitually checked the first and last six digits and found that the address was incorrect; it was an address A that I had copied before (not mine);
I thought I had copied it wrong, so I copied the correct address again. However, when I pasted it into the input box, it still showed address A!
I repeated this several times, and no matter what I copied, it would always paste as address A.
I realized that my clipboard might have malfunctioned, so I cleared the cache and restarted my phone, which restored it to normal.
If I hadn't carefully checked just now, those 10 $ETH could have been sent to someone else's address.
In the crypto world, you really can't be too careful, especially with the phone clipboard. I just opened the background and found that my clipboard still contained 31 items I had copied and pasted, including passwords I had stored with my password manager.
Sometimes, you copy and paste in application A, but the clipboard content isn't cleared and is cached. When you open application B, it might be read from the background, making it easy to leak mnemonic phrases or replace addresses.
So whether it's Apple or Android, you should practice security management regularly—
📱 Android
Select the "Messages" app, just tap the small clipboard above the keyboard, select "All," and then tap the trash can. (It may vary by device model.)
🍎 Apple
You can refer to @0xBeyondLee's image to set up a shortcut. After using the copied content, just tap the shortcut to clear sensitive information.
Additionally, I don't recommend using third-party input methods. If you do, it's advisable to adjust the access permissions in the settings.
Safety is no small matter; you never know which time you copy and paste could cost you months of salary or even all your principal.
So everyone should develop good security habits to reduce their risks!
