The Thai government is planning to allow tourists to use cryptocurrency for consumption through platforms linked to credit cards. This initiative was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira at an investment seminar in Bangkok on May 26, 2025.

Tourists can link their cryptocurrencies (such as $BTC, $ETH, USDT, etc.) to a credit card or payment platform that supports cryptocurrency payments, and then use it to make purchases in Thailand just like a regular credit card. Merchants will receive Thai Baht instead of cryptocurrency.

Essentially, it operates on the same principle as foreign exchange credit or debit cards, essentially making U cards compliant in Thailand.
