I don't know if everyone is aware of why Trump promised that the U.S. would not develop a CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency). I’ll throw out some ideas and hope everyone can contribute.

First, what is a CBDC? A CBDC is a digital currency issued by the government (the national central bank). Although it appears similar to stablecoins in form, as both can operate on specific blockchain systems, the biggest difference is that all data related to CBDC is controlled by the state.

This means that every penny spent by citizens can be traced back to its source and its destination. Many people believe that they are honest individuals who simply work, earn money, and consume, thinking that CBDC has nothing to do with them. However, the use of CBDC can create a complete consumption profile for every consumer within government institutions, allowing precise knowledge of each person's spending habits and sources of funds.

In simple terms, it can provide customized consumption recommendations to consumers. To put it bluntly, it won't offer a consumer with a total asset of 1,000 yuan and monthly spending of 1,000 yuan a recommendation for 100,000 yuan worth of goods. Of course, this is just the simplest application; in reality, one could say that under CBDC data, consumers are exposed.

In the future, even buying a bottle of amphetamine might trigger a cross-check to see if you have a medical record. Your entire life would be transparent, and any unexpected windfall would be instantly discovered. Data might determine that you cannot afford certain items, leading to a rejection of your purchase. More importantly, your money can only be CBDC.

Thus, the biggest difference between CBDC and stablecoins is that stablecoins are decentralized, and no one knows who owns the money, while CBDC is the exact opposite.

Trump's restriction on the U.S. CBDC is also due to a desire to prevent excessive government power, to protect personal privacy, and to safeguard traditional commercial banks.
