At 1:00 pm Beijing time today, after a month and a half of witch review, LayerZero finally opened the airdrop eligibility query link (click to jump).
However, most addresses only have a few to dozens of ZRO, with the least being less than 0.1. According to the pre-market trading data from Whales Market and Aevo, the price of ZRO is about 4U, which means that the airdropped tokens for most addresses are only tens of dollars. For users with a low winning rate, it may not even be enough to cover the transaction cost.
According to Lookonchain monitoring, a top airdrop hunter also stumbled on LayerZero, and their address only received 354.92 ZRO (about $1420) in this airdrop, while they had received substantial profits in previous airdrops: 104,806 ZK (29,000 USD), 10,250 ARB (14,000 USD), and 17,007 OP (24,000 USD).
All of the above proves that LayerZero can be called the largest "anti-looting" project of the year.
Airdrop Calculation Rules
LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino stated that there are ultimately only 1.28 million eligible addresses, and the final list of witch addresses will be announced tomorrow.
Regarding the final airdrop calculation rules, Bryan provided some explanations, combining with the previous "Ten Questions for LayerZero Co-founders: How to Handle Volume Trading and Calculate Token Incentives?," with the key points as follows:
The airdrop quantity is distributed linearly according to the LayerZero protocol fees, excluding fees charged by other protocols such as Stargate;
The minimum airdrop quantity for LayerZero Core group users is 25 ZRO, and the maximum is 5000 ZRO;
The RFP minimum is 5 ZRO, and the maximum is 10000 ZRO;
All early traders receive a triple multiplier, and later users receive an additional 10 ZRO;
NFT transactions with zero value are downweighted by 80%.
In addition to the above basic rules, LayerZero has also included many other calculation factors, including various NFTs and protocols, but LayerZero has not disclosed specific details, leading to many questioning voices in the community.
Reappearing Insider Trading?
Shortly after the query link was released, a picture of the query results began circulating in the community, showing that a user had received 10,000 ZRO airdropped by holding the Kanpai Pandas NFT, but the specific address was not disclosed in the community dissemination.
Odaily's investigation found that Kanpai Pandas is an NFT series that uses LayerZero's ONFT cross-chain technology. The lowest level of Kanpai Pandas can receive 63 ZRO, while the INIFINITY level can receive 522 ZRO, and the ALIEN HOLDERS level can receive 437 ZRO. This series has a total supply of 7976 ZRO, so approximately a million ZRO were airdropped to holders of this NFT series, not the rumored 30 million.
In fact, as the "favorite son" NFT of LayerZero, each Pudgy Penguins airdrop quantity is also in the tens to hundreds, similar to Kanpai Pandas.
LayerZero Labs CEO Bryan Pellegrino (Stinky Penguin) also confirmed that a total of 10 million tokens were airdropped to Stargate users this time, with Pudgy Penguins and Pandas holders each receiving 1 million tokens. "All projects in the RFP will be distributed to their communities according to their own wishes, and detailed information will be announced later."
However, during the investigation, Odaily Planet Daily found some interesting situations:
An address (0x251f8294b1e5df92366ced179fb66b7745749b6b) has only traded two types of NFTs, with Kanpai Pandas earning them 5335 ZRO.
And the other NFT, Mafia Nuts, purchased by this address, was transferred to address 2 (0x89cff61026f6743b8d25ae9b253582083136b1c4), with address 2's ZRO airdrop quota being 15010, with Kanpai Pandas contributing 9919 ZRO once again.
As for the NFTs related to LayerZero technology, holding a large number of these NFTs and being a target for airdrops does not necessarily indicate insider trading. However, for the vast majority of users who only received a few airdropped tokens, the appearance of multiple precise hit mysterious addresses does indeed easily lead to suspicion and anxiety.
LayerZero May Become the Endgame of Looting
In 2023, the three big players in the looting world, Starknet, ZKsync, and LayerZero, finally come to an end. Now, ZKsync and LayerZero have caused strong dissatisfaction in the community, and Starknet, which was previously criticized for high gas fees and network congestion, has become the final "big looting." Subsequent projects are not on the same scale as previous projects and will only become more internalized. LayerZero may become the endgame of looting.
