On April 24th, the free sci-fi shooting game Voyager: Ascension was first released on Gala Games. This game was developed by the relatively unknown game studio RFLXT, and it has been attracting attention over the past two weeks mainly due to the endorsement of Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson. Not only did he announce on April 12th that "our first game is about to be released," but he also released a video on the X platform on the eve of Voyager: Ascension's launch, telling the story of RFLXT and Voyager.
According to Charles Hoskinson, he is a member of the board of directors of RFLXT, and RFLXT is a "derivative company" of Cardano developer Input Output Global (IOG). Regarding the widely concerned question from the outside world of "why choose GalaChain instead of Cardano," RFLXT stated, "Helping to enhance the visibility and influence of Cardano-based games is one of our main focuses, but we also believe that it is very important for RFLXT to cooperate with multiple chains and platforms, because we hope to promote the growth and development of the entire industry in a new way." RFLXT also added that their core goal is to achieve interoperability, and Gala is very close to their mission.
Gala Games was founded in 2019, and this "veteran" Web3 game platform has performed quite well this year, with its GALA token price reaching a peak increase of 170% so far this year. After the market correction, as of April 25th, it still has an increase of about 60%. In addition, according to DeGame statistics, there are over 260,000 addresses holding the tokens and NFT assets launched by the platform. With the increasingly optimistic narrative of Web3 games, Gala Games, which has long held a place, is obviously a force in this track that cannot be ignored. So, what games does the platform have, and which game has the most potential to "go viral"? This article will take stock of the Gala ecosystem games and briefly introduce 11 out of the listed 19 games.
Voyager: Ascension
Voyager: Ascension can be traced back to 2018, originally named Overload, and was created by some creators of the classic old-school shooting game "Descent." Based on RFLXT's strategy of "leading old PC game developers into the Web3 world," Voyager: Ascension was born after adding some encrypted elements. It is worth mentioning that Overload is currently sold on Steam for $30, with over 1400 reviews and a 94% "very positive" rating. The gameplay of Voyager: Ascension, which is released for free on Gala, is basically the same as Overload. Currently, only the single-player game mode is available, and the multiplayer game mode will be released in the future.

Common Ground World (formerly Town Star)
Common Ground World is a farm simulation and management game, and it is also Gala Games' first independently developed flagship game. It was jointly created by a co-founder of the social game company Zynga and some creative minds behind the classic works "FarmVille" and "Words With Friends." In September last year, Gala collaborated with the well-known environmental documentary "Kiss the Ground" for its sequel "Common Ground," as the regenerative agriculture concept in the film is in line with the game, and it also changed the brand name "Town Star" to "Common Ground World." Similar to "Farmville," the main gameplay of Common Ground World includes core activities such as agricultural planting, building construction, upgrading, animal husbandry, and social interaction. Based on the value and production difficulty of specific goods, players can earn corresponding points and have the opportunity to enter the leaderboard to ultimately receive token rewards.

Spider Tank
Spider Tank is a free fast-paced PVP combat game and also the first chain game on the Gala ecosystem public chain Project GYRI. It was developed by the Dutch game studio GAMEDIA and officially released in October 2022. In the game, players first choose from a variety of tank bodies and weapons in the garage, and each tank can be personalized according to the player's needs, including customizing the body, weapons, skins, and props. The main body of the tank determines the tank's armor, speed, and energy, and is the most important part. Spider Tank provides six game modes including pvp team battles, flag capture, king of the hill, and chicken chase, aiming to provide rich gaming experiences for players with different preferences. In addition, players who win in the combat matching of non-free game options can earn honor and points, which can be used to exchange for Silk tokens.

Mirandus
A fantasy role-playing game set in a vast world ruled by five player monarchs. Players have high freedom in the game, being able to fight monsters in the wilderness, deep forests, and dungeons, serve as a knight for one of the monarchs, or shop in the city. The core mechanism of Mirandus is the ownership of in-game assets, and players can hold land deeds to occupy parts of the wilderness and build fortresses from small farms to large cities. The game contains various types of NFTs, including land deeds, ships, buildings, and graveyards. It is important to note that players need to hold Exemplar avatars to enter the game. The upper limit of Exemplars is fixed at 50,000, divided into different categories such as humans, elves, and orcs. Mirandus is still under development, and the development team stated that they will add characters other than Exemplars in the later stage to accommodate more players.

GRIT
A Web3 battle royale game set in the wild west, also the first Web3 game to be launched on the Epic Games Store, developed by Team Grit. Released in 2022, Gala Games acquired TeamGRIT and its game GRIT, and began integrating Web3 elements. GRIT features multiple game modes, including single-player, two-player, and team modes, allowing players to immerse themselves in gunfights in town squares, duels on dusty plains, and chaos on the Pacific Railroad. As a free game, GRIT also introduces a reward mechanism, including Generative Hero NFTs, GRIT Battle Pass, and in-game items obtained when winning in battle royale mode, all of which can provide income for players.

CHAMPIONS ARENA
A turn-based role-playing game created by the South Korean game studio OneUniverse. CHAMPIONS ARENA's gameplay combines strategy and diverse exploration options. From mining champion lands to enhancing "champions" in PvE battles, to arena and PvP duels, players have a range of gameplay choices. The chaos mode is the most important game mode for free players, allowing players to send champions to explore lands and obtain basic resources. Another main mode is the challenge, which includes two areas: the arena and the tower of trials. In the arena, players engage in battles, accumulate ranking points after victories, and receive corresponding rewards based on their ranking and number of wins. Players using NFT champions minted on GalaChain for the game have the chance to receive $GALA rewards.
Superior
An NFT-driven roguelite third-person shooter game developed by Drifter, set to be launched on Gala. Superior features distinctive art style and visual design, adopting a comic book style similar to "Borderlands." The game offers single-player, group, and random party game options, with the core experience depending on the character chosen by the player. Currently, there are three heroes available: Ronin, Nomad, and Murmur, corresponding to melee, shooting, and prop operation types. Players enter adventures in groups of three and choose hero characters before queuing. All characters are available for players to experience for free, but advanced version hero NFTs enjoy higher returns in terms of experience and rewards. Additionally, the non-Web3 version of this game, Superior: Vengeance, is already available on Steam, with a positive rating of about 76% from over a hundred game reviews.

Echoes of Empire
A free 4X strategy game, where 4X stands for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate, developed by Ion Games and launched on Gala Games earlier this year. In the game, each player is a leader of a noble family, controlling a vast base space station, capable of exploring known space, mining resources from celestial bodies, manufacturing spacecraft, and battling enemies, using resources and strategies to maximize efficiency and growth. Echoes of Empire is built around various game interactions that drive player experiences, which can be roughly categorized into exploration, combat, trade, expansion, missions, land, management, supply, and maintenance. The in-game token Stardust is the core of Echoes of Empire's incentive system and can be used to exchange for $GALA rewards.

LAST EXPEDITION
A cyberpunk-style PvPvE evacuation first-person shooter game, currently in the Pre Alpha stage and available for early access on Gala. Last Expedition's gameplay is not only about survival but also about strategy. After selecting a "drop zone" from their base, players extract missions and focus on collecting three "fragments" as the main storyline, ensuring the safety of the "core" before a safe evacuation. As players roam the map, they will encounter various enemies and a series of challenges. The game's PvPVE mechanism requires players to not only face AI enemies but also compete with other teams, making each mission unpredictable.
THE WALKING DEAD: EMPIRES
A survival game set in the world of AMC's "The Walking Dead" series, integrating combat systems, traditional RPG crafting systems, base building, and alliance mechanisms. In the game, building a base is crucial. Establishing a defense system to protect oneself from zombies and other players is key to survival. Players can also turn their base into an activity center, allowing other players to buy, sell, battle, or kill for rewards. The crafting system is another important gameplay related to survival. With an NFT crafting station, players can create specific in-game items for personal use or sell them to allies. As a free game, TWDE only integrates NFTs to provide players with higher-level advantages, such as pistols, incendiary grenades, and crafting-related items in combat.

Meow Match
A match-three puzzle game developed by Ember Entertainment. Like all match-three game modes, players in Meow Match can experience hundreds of levels, each with unique challenges and delightful pet cats. Different level stages involve color matching and require tactical thinking and strategy, as players need to constantly connect and explode balls of the same color to make progress. The game's main highlight is its cat-themed content, giving players the opportunity to discover and collect various breeds of cats, each with its own unique charm and personality. The game is available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
