This article introduces five blockchain games worth paying attention to in January 2024. The author, WASD, not only shares the basic information of the games but also mentions their latest developments and upcoming events. These games include Sky Strife, Dark Forest Arena, Tarochi, Force Prime Heroes, and Aether Sands, showcasing the vitality and diversity of the blockchain gaming field.
January will be an important month for blockchain games, with a large number of new products, updates, activities, and game tests set to be launched in the next 30 days.
In this article, I will preview the upcoming events by introducing five games that I am most looking forward to. Let's get started now!
Sky Strife
Introduction
Sky Strife is a turn-based real-time strategy (RTS) game built by Lattice in MUD.
In Sky Strife, you can participate in 2 to 4 player PVP matches with the goal of destroying other players' bases while protecting your own from attacks.
Upcoming Project Progress
Sky Strife is about to start its next continuous game test (Season 0.1), which will run on the Redstone Holesky testnet from January 8th to 30th.
Although the detailed information about the structure of this season has not been officially released, it is very likely that, similar to before, the Lattice team will create free matches multiple times a day during this period.
However, it is certain that players participating in the above matches will be able to earn Orbs.
Orbs are ERC-20 tokens awarded as match rewards, which can be used to create games between free matches.
In addition, users will be able to forge new Season Pass NFTs, allowing holders to access exclusive matches, maps, and initiate whitelist games.
I had a great time playing in Season 0 of Sky Strife, so I can't wait to play Season 0.1.
Dark Forest Arena
Introduction
Dark Forest Arena is a community event hosted by dfDAO on the Gnosis chain in the Dark Forest.
Dark Forest is an MMO game where players compete for dominance over the galaxy covered by zk-SNARK by conquering planets, scoring, and improving their in-game rankings.
Project Progress
The latest competition launched by Dark Forest is the "speed round," where players' goal is to occupy target planets in the shortest time possible.
The event started on December 31st and will last for two weeks. The player with the highest score (i.e., the fastest capture time) will receive prizes.
I think this is a great way to rekindle users' interest in Dark Forest and to showcase the game to players like me who were not present during its heyday.
I have not formally tried playing it yet, although I am almost certain I won't win, but I am still eager to join the competition (or should I say, the arena).
Tarochi
Introduction
Tarochi is an online RPG game developed by Paima Studios using the Paima engine on XAI.
This game has similarities to Pokémon, as players can explore, complete quests, battle, and capture monsters.
Project Progress
Paima plans to hold a test for the latest version of the game (Season 1) in January.
This event will be open to members of their Discord server, so if you haven't joined, you should. Season 1 will introduce several new features, including PVP battles (battles are currently PVE) and tradable gold currency.
In addition, players will be able to trade their in-game status.
Overall, I am very excited about Season 1 and eager to try out these new features.
I think introducing PVP will make battles more engaging, and I am also curious about the player status trading market.
Force Prime Heroes
Introduction
Force Prime Heroes is a fantasy game built by Force Prime using Dojo and Unity.
Heroes were created during the recent Dojo Holiday Game Jam hackathon and are set in a land called Arcanus, where players' mission is to defeat a creature called "The Bone Dragon."
To do this, they will collect chests and engage in PVE battles by deploying five different types of creatures or units.
Project Progress
While the client can currently be downloaded and played on Windows, Force Prime Heroes plans to release a web version in the near future.
The team will also host a tournament later this month, where players can compete to win prizes and influence.
I am not a Windows user, so I haven't had the chance to play Heroes yet.
Nevertheless, I am excited about the upcoming web game release and tournament, and I look forward to experiencing this game firsthand for the first time.
Aether Sands
Introduction
Aether Sands is an open-world game developed by k0 Labs using MUD.
Aether Sands is set in a post-apocalyptic world where you need to rebuild civilization by planting and defending a tree called the Temple.
You will accomplish this by extracting and managing resources like water and using machines called Harvesters.
Project Progress
Aether Sands held its first public test last month and will begin its second test in mid-January.
Although the first public test lasted about 24 hours, we don't know too many details about this test.
But based on my understanding of the game, I am looking forward to playing Aether Sands.
It reminds me of Primodium, and open-world games are one of my favorite types in offline games.
A Good Start to the New Year
As you can see, January will be an exciting and vibrant month for us blockchain gamers.
New versions of Sky Strife, Tarochi, Force Prime Heroes, and Aether Sands are about to be released, and Dark Forest Arena is already online and playable!
There will definitely be more product releases in the coming weeks. This rapid level of development is not only interesting for all of us but also a super bullish signal for the future of this field.
In conclusion, this will be a very important year for blockchain games.
