No code, no game development engineering, have you ever imagined creating a game within 20 minutes?
AI can create popular copywriting, write novels, create video scripts, write code, make posters, and even generate 3D spaces. Now, a project has extended the application of AI+ to a new field.
Under the iteration of AI technology, this has become a reality.
At the 2023 Baidu Cloud ZhiDa Conference, the AI game engine company RPGGO showcased their developed generative AI game engine - Zagii Engine. With simple text input, UGC can be used to create a complete multiplayer dynamic role-playing murder mystery game with AI tools.
After trying the game, we found that this technology significantly accelerated the standardization of the AI game production process and improved the UGC creation ability and content quality.
For ordinary UGC creators, it is very difficult to create a story they like and extend the IP. UGC often lacks a foundation in code and text, and completing content creation, level design, and various rules, logic, and splicing designs is almost impossible to do independently. Not only is the cost of learning related tools very high, but achieving the deep design of complex plots is also a daunting task.
Based on its self-developed Zagii Engine, RPGGO aims to build a lightweight creator tool platform to assist creators in simplifying the development process, maximizing creative output, and enabling everyone to independently create a world.
If a creator wants to complete a game work, it must at least cover interactivity, playability, and content with the core plot of the game, considering the plot connections between characters in the game, while also carefully designing game levels and objectives for players. With the Zagii game engine, players can transform their creativity and imagination into complex game mechanics and storylines. In the past few months, RPGGO has started alpha testing of the text version on the overseas game community Discord, demonstrating the basic engine capabilities of AI NPCs adapting to the game world setting and having vivid personality traits.
It is worth mentioning that RPGGO revealed that the Zagii engine has successfully cooperated with overseas metaverse projects. They embedded the game generator into a 3A-level 3D open world environment and realized the survival interaction of multiple AI intelligent entities in the same scene, allowing AI to lead player actions and trigger the direction of the game story.
From Black and White to 3D World: One-Click Generated "Open World"
RPGGO demonstrated the UGC application scenario of Text-to-Game in the on-site demo "Save Me! Labor Law Protection God" using the Zagii engine, presenting a pixel-style murder mystery game with real-time dialogue decryption by AI NPCs.
Li Jiaying, the product manager, stated that the game was completed through collaboration between a murder mystery enthusiast and RPGGO. Players can freely converse with the suspects (AI intelligent entity NPCs), search their space in the scene, and collect clues. NPCs not only remember the conversation history with the player, but also are familiar with the clues they need to conceal and the trigger words for key plot points. At the same time, during each game, the AI records the player's progress in the game, such as picking up a certain item or learning a key clue.
Demo showing real-time feedback from AI NPCs
NPCs will follow their background settings to generate dialogue and guide players, engaging in humorous exchanges.
Player: Where are you from?
NPC: I'm from the northeast, how about you?
Player: I am too.
NPC: Hey, fellow villager, tears in my eyes! What do you do here?
Player: I'm a professional slacker.
_NPC: Haha, you're really something! Being a professional slacker, I truly admire you!
The participating project of RPGGO used Wenxin Yiyuan as the Chinese language model base for NPCs, combined with the self-developed Zagii engine plug-in model API capabilities, integrating UGC creativity and open source art assets to develop a web-based mini-game. In the future, the project plans to open source this town as part of the upper-level products of RPGGO, for creators and developers to perform simple configuration and asset replacement.
Zagii Engine, Decoding the DNA of Games
During the game design and development process, creators usually need to focus on the reasons behind events in the game world (why), the description of events/objects in the game (what), and how they unfold (how). This layered disassembly and the organization of the relationship between characters, props, and levels help enhance the player's control over game creation and overall effectiveness, allowing for interactive experiences with depth and layers. However, enabling AI to disassemble the various nodes in game design is a major challenge in technical implementation.
During the discussion, Li Jiaying stated that the core design of the Zagii engine is focused on making AI more automated and precise in disassembling every step of user thinking in game design, providing users with a series of functions such as game configuration, scene configuration, multi-scene multi-NPC design, independent adjustment of AI NPC individuals, AI model configuration, and effect addition and reduction. Linked creator tools, when creators complete simple editing on the platform, the Zagii engine will render according to the game logic designed by the player, thereby driving the game under the worldview, scenes under the game, and characters under the scenes. These technical capabilities have also been developed for B-end API products.
The RPGGO team mentioned on-site that they plan to use AI game engine applications to enable players to generate a completely AI-created and driven virtual world with one click. The original intention of developing the game engine is to assist creators in exploring more game concepts, transforming ideas into dynamic and content-rich experiences, and providing creators with a broader space for creative realization. At the same time, the engine deploys AI NPC interaction, bringing players a new narrative experience, demonstrating dynamically generated stories, tasks, and dialogues, allowing players to deeply immerse themselves.
It is reported that the creator tool platform of this project is now open for early bird registration, and the first batch of creator passes will be limited to 500. Players can apply on the official website rpggo.ai (click at the end of the article to read the original article) to obtain comprehensive AI generation tool usage rights. This tool allows players to personalize game creation based on their preferences and storylines and share them.
AI Building an Open World: Fantasy or Reality
The rise of real-time generative AI in game development is rapidly changing the gaming experience. It not only makes games more dynamic, diverse, and imaginative, but also stimulates creativity and promotes broader community participation in game creation. When constructing a vivid open game world, the continuous game world framework (world book) can greatly enhance the depth of the game experience.
Although text-based game generation technology may not currently reach the level of visual aesthetics and narrative complexity in traditional games, the rapid development in the field of AI is truly impressive. The generative technology used by RPGGO not only gives players the ability to experience a dynamically open world but also accelerates the construction of the UGC creator community, enriches the extension of game design, unleashes the potential of excellent creativity, and allows imagination to be shared. This development momentum is indeed worth looking forward to.
