The political organization Innovate NY, which claims to "support digital assets," has raised approximately $100,000 ahead of the New York City mayoral election, backing independent candidate and former governor Andrew Cuomo.
Innovate NY announced its support for Cuomo's mayoral campaign in a notice on Tuesday, as the election has entered the early voting phase. The political group cited an agenda that includes "blockchain, tokenization, public stablecoins, and artificial intelligence."
The organization is registered as an independent spender with the New York City Campaign Finance Board and has raised $99,500 from six individuals through two companies as of Wednesday.
According to spending records, Innovate NY spent $30,000 on flyers supporting Cuomo and opposing Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, who is currently leading the former New York governor in several polls.
The New York City mayoral election has attracted significant attention from the crypto industry due to its potential impact on companies operating in the largest economic center in the U.S. Voters will choose between frontrunner Mamdani, Cuomo, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa on November 4.
In the final weeks of the campaign, Cuomo has targeted crypto-aware New York voters, promising to establish an innovation council and create advisory boards for cryptocurrency, AI, and biotechnology if elected. Mamdani, who is leading Cuomo in the polls, has largely avoided making digital assets a part of his campaign, instead focusing on cost-of-living concerns, including childcare and affordable housing.
Eric Adams, who has been the mayor of New York City since 2022, has strongly promoted cryptocurrency and blockchain policies in his final year in office.
During his tenure as mayor, he hosted a crypto summit, established a digital advisory council, called for the city to create Bitcoin-backed bonds, and recently signed an executive order to establish a digital assets and blockchain office.
Adams announced in September that he would not seek re-election, having campaigned with the support of crypto entrepreneur Brock Pierce. Whoever wins the mayoral election will succeed Adams on January 1, 2026.
