An independent Bitcoin miner has become the latest lucky winner, receiving a Bitcoin mining reward of $347,000 in block rewards.
The Bitcoin node infrastructure company Umbrel pointed out that this independent miner obtained the block through the Public Pool Bitcoin mining pool, earning 3.125 Bitcoin in block rewards and an additional 0.016 Bitcoin in transaction fees.
According to Mempool.space data, this event occurred at block height 920,440, on Thursday at 19:32 (UTC).
While it is not uncommon for independent Bitcoin miners to obtain blocks, this event is particularly notable because the miner achieved this by running an independent mining pool, relying entirely on personal computing power to secure the block, rather than the conventional practice of pooling computing power with others.
Umbrel stated, "No middlemen, no third parties—this is a pure example of self-sovereignty." Meanwhile, the Bitcoin Bazaar X account added:
The increase in independent Bitcoin miners solving blocks is a good thing for the decentralization of Bitcoin, as it gives small miners a better chance to compete with many large industrial-scale miners listed.
In recent years, small Bitcoin mining machines like Bitaxes have gradually become popular, priced from $155 to over $600, depending on the machine's computing power (TH/s).
These pocket-sized devices have a limited impact on the overall Bitcoin hash rate, but many devices have been made open-source, aimed at countering the "secrecy and exclusivity" of large miners. These large miners typically use closed-source Bitcoin ASIC mining machines. As a spokesperson for BitMaker stated in an interview with Cointelegraph in 2023.
