According to the release shared with Bitcoin.com News, the new Trezor wallet features TROPIC01 — said to be the world’s first transparent and verifiable secure element — paired with open-source firmware and a sleek anodized aluminum unibody.
By allowing public inspection of its hardware design, Trezor explained in the release that it aims to eliminate the trust gap that typically surrounds closed-source security chips.
The team also noted that the Trezor Safe 7 is engineered with quantum security in mind. Its quantum-ready bootloader ensures the device can safely transition to post-quantum cryptography when blockchains eventually adopt quantum-resistant algorithms.
“It’s not a question of if, but when,” Tomáš Sušanka, Trezor’s CTO, remarked during the announcement. “That’s why we built a quantum-ready bootloader into Safe 7.”
The Trezor exec added:
“When the time comes, your device can be safely updated, even in a future where quantum computers pose a threat.”
The Safe 7 further employs a dual-secure element system — the open TROPIC01 chip and a secondary EAL6+ element — creating layered physical and cryptographic protection. Users must physically confirm all transactions on the device’s 2.5-inch color touchscreen, keeping private keys isolated from any networked environment.
The firm disclosed that for modern usability, the wallet supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Qi2-certified wireless charging, and a Gorilla Glass display. The Trezor Host Protocol secures wireless connections across mobile and desktop via encrypted authentication.
Priced at $249 (€249), the Trezor Safe 7 comes in Charcoal Black and a Bitcoin-only edition, with preorders open now and shipping slated for four weeks. A full accessories lineup — including a magnetic Qi2 charger, vegan leather case, privacy screen protector, and braided USB-C cable — accompanies the release.
The new device comes at a time when there’s been a lot of discussion and debate concerning quantum-ready technology for blockchain networks like Bitcoin.
