Criminals are attacking the official Monad Telegram channel through advertisements, with content impersonating the project's upcoming claim portal.
Monad co-founder Keone Hon posted on the X platform, warning users not to click on the advertisement links within the official channel. He pointed out that attackers purchased Telegram ads, which are directly displayed in the project's official announcement channel—originally intended to only publish Monad's own updates.
Hon stated, "It is shocking that Telegram would push content directly to a channel that is supposed to be limited to official announcements."
This attack occurred on the eve of the highly anticipated Monad airdrop, with the claim portal set to open at 13:00 UTC on Tuesday. As scammers attempt to exploit user attention before the airdrop claim portal opens, Hon reminded everyone not to rush into actions.
Hon wrote, "Do not rush to act; always triple-check before taking any action." According to Hon's warning, the community needs to be vigilant against phishing attacks and assured users that the claim portal will be open for three weeks, so there is no need to rush.
Before the official token generation event, the yet-to-be-launched MON token is trading at approximately $0.07 on the Hyperliquid perpetual contract market, based on a total supply of 10 billion tokens, implying a fully diluted valuation (FDV) of about $7 billion.
This early pricing reflects investors' expectations for the mainnet launch and its potential to compete with other high-performance blockchain networks.
Monad is a Layer-1 blockchain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), designed to enhance scalability and throughput. The network claims to handle 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) through parallel execution and optimized consensus layers, achieving near-instant finality.
According to Monad, it has resolved the blockchain trilemma, which typically allows a network to achieve only two of the three key attributes: scalability, security, and decentralization.
The false advertisements infiltrating Telegram's infrastructure have clearly violated multiple advertising policies and guidelines of the platform.
Violating content includes deceptive ads, content manipulation, spam software, and hacking activities, as well as promoting harmful financial products or services, all of which violate Telegram's relevant regulations.
According to Telegram, the platform explicitly prohibits phishing links in advertisements. "Ads must not promote phishing, including services that induce users to provide personal or other information."
Despite the platform having established relevant policies, the Monad incident highlights that the advertisement review mechanism still needs to be further strengthened to prevent phishing attacks.
