Aave Labs Launches Horizon to Bridge Traditional Finance and DeFi

Built on the Aave protocol, which holds over $62 billion in net deposits, Horizon allows qualified institutions to use tokenized assets like U.S. Treasuries and funds as collateral. This provides 24/7 access to capital-efficient stablecoin loans, according to the release shared with Bitcoin.com News.

The initiative addresses the underutilization of an estimated $25 billion in existing tokenized RWAs, which often remain locked in legacy systems. A network of major financial partners anchors the launch. This includes tokenization pioneers Centrifuge and Superstate, stablecoin issuer Circle, asset managers like Vaneck and Hamilton Lane, and the oracle and offchain data provider Chainlink.

Initial eligible collateral includes funds like the Superstate Short Duration U.S. Government Securities Fund (USTB) and Centrifuge’s Janus Henderson Anemoy Treasury Fund (JTRSY). The platform plans to expand its supported asset classes over time.

“Horizon delivers the infrastructure and deep stablecoin liquidity that institutions require to operate onchain,” Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave Labs remarked on Wednesday. He stated the platform unlocks transparency and more efficient markets.

To power this institutional lending, Horizon integrated Chainlink’s SmartData, starting with its Onchain NAV product. This provides real-time, accurate net asset value data directly on-chain, which is crucial for securely valuing RWA collateral and enabling compliant, overcollateralized loans.

By combining issuer-enforced compliance at the token level with permissionless stablecoin markets, Horizon expands Aave’s reach into traditional finance (TradFi). It positions the ecosystem as a core liquidity source for the growing tokenization market.
