As one of the most influential annual Ethereum events in China, the highly anticipated ETHShanghai is set to return. This year, the fourth edition of ETHShanghai will have the new theme "Scaling Ethereum, Shaping the Open Future," and will take place from October 18 to 22, 2025, in Shanghai, featuring five days of in-depth sharing, technical exchanges, and ecosystem connections.
This event will continue to be led by ETHPanda, in collaboration with Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, PANews, and TinTinLand, and will be held concurrently with the annual Wanxiang Blockchain Global Summit, gathering developers, researchers, and industry builders from around the world to discuss the future development direction of Ethereum.
We are committed to creating an annual event truly aimed at Builders, focusing on technological innovation, user experience, and an Asian perspective. During the five-day event, there will be four days centered around a hackathon, complemented by online Ethereum co-learning and leisure hackathons, as well as offline technical workshops and project demos. Our goal is to gather the most active developers and researchers in the Asia-Pacific region, promote rapid implementation of ideas, and help outstanding projects transition from code to users, ultimately forming a sustainable open ecosystem.
Scaling Ethereum, Shaping the Open Future
Ethereum stands at a historic new starting point. In 2025, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the mainnet launch, the entire ecosystem is advancing with unprecedented momentum. Market sentiment is at an all-time high, with prices nearing historical peaks, and authoritative financial institutions like Standard Chartered predicting that its price will rise to $25,000 in the coming years. Behind this wave is the accelerated influx of institutional investors, potential demand for spot ETFs, and the steady realization of Ethereum's own technological roadmap. Ethereum is rapidly evolving from a playground for tech enthusiasts into a value platform that attracts enterprises, governments, and global users.
To seize this historic opportunity and proactively guide the healthy development of the ecosystem, the Ethereum Foundation announced a significant expansion and reorganization of its ecosystem development (EcoDev) work in July this year. This new strategic blueprint aims to achieve two core goals: maximizing user benefits from Ethereum's core values and enhancing the resilience of Ethereum's technology and social infrastructure.
The strategy focuses on four key areas, working in synergy to shape the future of Ethereum:
Ecosystem Acceleration: As a growth engine, the foundation is forming new teams to accelerate ecosystem development. This includes providing customized guidance for enterprises adopting Ethereum, comprehensive support for the next generation of developers, accelerating user-facing application implementation, and offering valuable non-financial support to founders, such as mentorship and resource referrals.
Ecosystem Amplification: To enhance ecosystem influence, the foundation will create rich narrative content through a digital studio, connect communities through strategic events, expand local hubs through the "Everywhere is Ethereum" initiative, and utilize automation and AI tools to improve overall operational efficiency, making the ecosystem's achievements more widely seen and utilized. Additionally, the Devcon/nect team will continue to focus on hosting large annual events like Devcon and Devconnect, but will report directly to the management team rather than being included in the new EcoDev structure.
Ecosystem Support: To ensure the sustainability of the ecosystem, the foundation will continue to provide key support. Its grant program (ESP) will focus more on targeted applications and non-financial support. At the same time, it will support key public goods through strategic funding programs and help ecosystem organizations address operational, funding, and governance challenges through the Launchpad project.
Long-term Ecosystem Guidance: Looking to the future, the foundation is committed to removing global barriers. This includes actively coordinating policies and communicating with global regulators; establishing an institutional secretariat to deepen cooperation with the public sector and NGOs; and creating an academic secretariat to promote collaboration with higher education institutions, paving the way for Ethereum's long-term development.
Under this new strategic framework, ETHShanghai 2025 holds particular significance. It is not only a technical event but also a key practice of the Ethereum Foundation's new EcoDev blueprint. The conference's focus on developer growth, founder success, and ecosystem expansion is a direct response to the "Ecosystem Acceleration" strategy; the conference itself is a large-scale action of "Ecosystem Amplification" and "Ecosystem Support," transforming the foundation's macro strategy into concrete community connections, technical collisions, and project incubation.

This year's ETHShanghai 2025 has designed three closely connected core sections, spanning both online and offline, to provide value to participants from different backgrounds.
ETHShanghai 2024
Road to ETHShanghai (July - September)
Before the main event begins, a three-month ETHShanghai Youth Hacker Voyage program will kick off. This program includes online co-learning, workshops, and hackathons, aimed at discovering and funding outstanding young developers in Asia, providing them with transportation subsidies, opportunities to participate in events, and community exchange platforms, lowering the barriers for them to come to Shanghai and engage deeply with Ethereum's core builders.
The total budget for the program exceeds 6000 USDT, funding at least 30 individuals, with a maximum subsidy of 200 USDT per person. The activities include:
Online Workshops and Meetups: Organizing learning sessions in advance to familiarize participants with the agenda and hackathon-related content;
Hackathon Co-creation Participation: Applicants must participate in the concurrent Hackathon and co-create awards;
Offline Meetups: Inviting quality project parties for presentations and exchanges to help developers broaden their horizons.
Event schedule:
July 2025: Launch of the Voyage program, online co-learning begins;
August 2025: Online leisure hackathon and workshop learning, selection of outstanding participants to join the Voyage program, and opening of guest applications;
September 2025: Offline hackathon registration opens, announcement of Voyage program results, and hosting of online meetups.
Hackathon (October 18 - 21)
The four-day offline programming marathon is the technical core and innovation engine of the entire event, to be held on-site in Shanghai. The competition will revolve around the theme "Scaling Ethereum, Shaping the Open Future," encouraging developers to propose innovative solutions to Ethereum's most pressing challenges.
This hackathon is open to developers worldwide, with a maximum of 5 members per team. Registration will open in September 2025, using a rolling selection mechanism, with approximately 100 top developers (about 30-40 projects) expected to be selected from over 500 registrants to participate in the on-site competition. The hackathon has a total prize pool of up to $20,000, and winning teams will have the opportunity to share or showcase their projects at the main summit on October 22, gaining significant industry exposure.
ETHShanghai 2025 Summit (October 22)
Following the intense atmosphere of the hackathon, a one-day summit will culminate the event. The summit is expected to attract over 1200 registrants, with more than 800 attending in person. At that time, the event will gather over 20 speakers from home and abroad, as well as more than 20 partner communities and technology brands, to jointly promote technical exchanges and ecosystem co-construction. Previous guest lineups have included industry leaders such as Vitalik Buterin, Joseph Lubin, and Tim Beiko.
The summit will continue the high-quality, technology-oriented style of previous editions, with a special "Exhibition Area" set up in the main venue, focusing on the latest developments in Ethereum scaling and modular ecosystems. The exhibition content will revolve around three core themes, highly aligned with the strategic goals of the Ethereum Foundation:
