A statue commemorating the mysterious Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto has been stolen from the Chiani Park in Lugano, Switzerland.

This theft has been confirmed by Satoshigallery, the group behind the global Satoshi Nakamoto statue initiative, which is now offering a reward of 0.1 BTC (worth over $11,000) for information that helps recover the statue.

"Where is Satoshi Nakamoto?" the group posted on the X platform on Sunday. "You can steal our symbol, but you can never steal our soul," the statement read, reiterating their commitment to installing statues in 21 cities worldwide despite the setback.

The artwork was designed by Italian artist and Bitcoin advocate Valentina Picozzi, made from 304 stainless steel and weathering steel blocks. The statue was unveiled last October.

The Lugano statue features a faceless figure sitting in front of a laptop, which appears to "disappear" when viewed from the front or back, symbolizing the anonymity of the Bitcoin creator and the idea that "we are all Satoshi Nakamoto."

Reportedly, the concept underwent 18 months of research and took 3 months to build. The statue was placed in front of the Chiani Villa during the Plan B forum, an annual blockchain event co-hosted by the city of Lugano and the stablecoin issuer Tether.

Mayor Michele Foletti stated that the statue reflects Lugano's commitment to digital innovation. "Lugano is rapidly becoming a leading center for digital innovation, and this statue not only pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto but also embodies the forward-thinking spirit that drives our city’s development," he said at the time.

It is worth noting that this is not the first public art piece honoring Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2021, a bronze statue was unveiled in Budapest's Graphisoft Park, designed with a mirrored face, allowing viewers to see themselves in the figure, echoing the idea that Satoshi could be anyone.

Last month, after Bitcoin reached $120,000, Satoshi Nakamoto theoretically became the 11th richest person in the world. It is believed that Satoshi controls 1.096 million BTC, worth over $131 billion.

To surpass the current richest person in the world, Elon Musk, whose net worth exceeds $404 billion, the value of Bitcoin would need to increase more than threefold. Satoshi's wallet remains untouched, further intensifying the mystery surrounding the anonymous founder of Bitcoin.
