U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on social media platform X on Aug. 1 that the United States is now entering a transformative period for blockchain innovation, describing it as a pivotal era for digital assets. His message underscored the administration’s support for emerging technologies tied to decentralized computing and digital financial systems. The comments signaled a departure from earlier regulatory skepticism and reflected a push to align U.S. policy with the accelerating pace of global crypto development.
Bessent framed this transition as a fundamental shift in national strategy, declaring:
The U.S. has entered the Golden Age of Crypto.
He explained that “under POTUS, we are exploring new possibilities in decentralized computing and digital payments to unlock the potential of blockchain technology.” His statement included a direct appeal to crypto founders. “So start your companies here. Launch your protocols here. And hire your workers here,” Bessent said, urging them to build operations, develop protocols, and grow teams within the United States.
These comments reflect an overarching effort to secure U.S. leadership in the global Web3 economy. Many in the industry have hailed the current administration as the most pro-crypto government to date, citing its willingness to engage with stakeholders and establish clearer rules. President Donald Trump has publicly stated his intention to make the U.S. the global capital of crypto. Under the leadership of Chair Paul Atkins, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is moving away from a “regulation-by-enforcement” model and toward a more collaborative, policy-driven approach.
Moreover, Bessent’s remarks followed the signing into law of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, the SEC’s launch of Project Crypto, and the White House release of the crypto report by the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets.
