According to a report from The Rage, as part of their plea agreements, prosecutors dropped more serious money laundering conspiracy charges, which carried potential 25-year sentences. Rodriguez faces a $250,000 fine and Hill a $400,000 fine; both agreed to forfeit $237 million to the government and could receive up to five years in prison at sentencing scheduled for November 6 and 7, respectively. The developers admitted to knowingly transmitting funds derived from criminal activity, including $200 million linked to illicit sources like the Silk Road darknet market. The guilty pleas came despite earlier arguments citing FinCEN guidance suggesting non-custodial services like Samourai might not require licenses.
