DCG Poll: Decentralized Artificial Intelligence (AI) Favored by Most Americans

According to a survey commissioned by the cryptocurrency venture capital firm Digital Currency Group (DCG) and conducted by Harris Poll, nearly three-quarters of surveyed Americans believe that decentralized artificial intelligence is more likely to support innovation and progress than centralized artificial intelligence.

The poll results, released on May 29, show that 56% of the 2,036 American respondents aged 18 and older support decentralized artificial intelligence, and 77% believe that decentralized artificial intelligence is "more beneficial to society as a whole."

DCG's Vice President of Policy, Julie Stitzel, stated, "Three-quarters of Americans agree that if the transformative power of artificial intelligence is not concentrated in the hands of a few major players, it will benefit more people."

Notably, 67% of respondents believe that centralized artificial intelligence may be more biased, 63% think that centralized artificial intelligence is more likely to benefit large tech companies rather than ordinary people, and it is also more likely to misuse user data.

To combat the dominance of large tech companies in the field of artificial intelligence, key industry players and AI experts have emphasized the importance of decentralized artificial intelligence.

Chris Miglino, co-founder and CEO of DNA Fund, stated in an interview with Cointelegraph that decentralized AI models have the potential to become larger than Bitcoin (BTC).

Last week, Ben Goertzel, founder and CEO of SingularityNET, mentioned that he believed AI should be decentralized as early as the 1990s.

Ben added that if artificial general intelligence—a hypothetical AI model that is as intelligent as a human—is to benefit humanity, it must be decentralized from the very beginning.

On May 5, Tether CEO Paolo Adroino announced that the stablecoin issuer would soon launch an AI platform that will integrate support for Tether's USDT and BTC payments.

Earlier this month, Thinkagents.ai, an AI agent protocol, launched a new open-source framework for building on-chain agents that operate autonomously on decentralized networks. Over 70 crypto companies, including Yuga Labs and Magic Eden, have adopted the protocol.
